Hi everyone,

I am a loyal follower of Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 oil. I use it in everything. Well unfortunately on my latest trip to Walmart, the Mobil 1 was sold out.

I had to buy this Valvoline product as a substitute. Is it a decent oil? Is it on par with the Mobil 1 product? I assume it’s not as good as the Mobil EP, but hopefully it’s at least close in quality.

Thank you!

There are only a limited number of used oil analysis on this site for Valvoline Extended Protection and most of those owners did not push this oil to the limit. I'm sure Valvoline would have compared their product with the competition before putting it on the market.

Does your vehicle require a Dexos-compliant lubricant? Valvoline claims that Valvoline Restore and Protect has 79% better wear protection (vs. a GF-6 qualified oil). Not criticizing your decision just asking...

Valvoline Extended Protection is a fine product but as Glenda W. pointed out it's not a long drain oil like Mobil 1 Extended Performance. For a normal 5 to 7K OCI the Valvoline would be great but if I were doing a longer OCI I'd use Mobil 1 Extended Performance.
