Valvoline 5w30 Extended Protection

Hi everyone,

I am a loyal follower of Mobil 1 5w30 EP oil. I use it in everything. Well unfortunately on my latest trip to Walmart, the Mobil 1 was sold out.

I had to buy this Valvoline product as a substitute. Is it a decent oil? Is it on par with the Mobil 1 product? I assume it’s not as good as the Mobil EP, but hopefully it’s at least close in quality.

Valvoline knows what their doing and I'm sure it's a very good oil. Use with confidence.

Valvoline EP is a fantastic oil. Keep in mind it’s not an extended interval oil despite extended in the name.

There are only a limited number of uoa's on this site for Valvoline EP and most of those owners did not push this oil to the limit. I'm sure Valvoline would have compared their product with the competition before putting it on the market.

Does your vehicle require a Dexos-compliant lubricant? Valvoline claims that Restore & Protect has 79% better wear protection (vs. a GF-6 qualified oil). Not criticizing your decision just asking...

Valvoline EP is a fine product but as Glenda W. pointed out it's not a long drain oil like Mobil 1 EP. For a normal 5 to 7K OCI the Valvoline would be great but if I were doing a longer OCI I'd use Mobil 1 EP.

Yes. The HM version is better with GTL base oil.

Thank you! I will only be run 2,500-3,000 miles. I don’t ever do extended oil runs.

valvoline EP HM is my go-tO off the shelf oil. my other is PUP.
