Valvoline 20w-50 conventional racing oil

The last guy I knew that used 20W-50VR1 used it in an older, rotary engine RX-7. I may do the same if I can find a nicer 80's vintage RX-7 that I can gradually restore and drive in the summer months...

The guy in question once owned an oil change shop and religiously used Mobil1, but that's a no-no in the Rotaries, so he was told to use a high quality, thick mineral oil, and was told VR1 was a very good choice. I don't know if he still has the RX-7 anymore though...

Haven't used it since my 1970 428 CJ mustang bought new
in the good old days. It served that engine well. But always
used Valvoline 10/30 in winter (Minnesota)
IMHO it has it's place, but don't feel it's an everyday oil for
most applications.
