Update 2024 Refrigerator Satisfaction by Brand

Brunette. She did not recommend LG or Samsung based on compressor longevity and parts availability. I bought the the Hisense because it was cheaper; she had plenty of GE, Maytag etc in the same configuration but more $$$ and you’re cleaning the condenser and fan twice a year. According to her, best reliability is top freezer/bottom fridge 2 door followed by what I bought. I get more ice from my ice trays than my friend gets with his top of the line LG side by side with ice maker. There’s a reason he keeps a hair dryer in the kitchen; he’s always defrosting the ice maker.

Sorry OP, LG (especially their refrigerators) are hot garbage. I've previously posted my dad's went out at 3 years, he just replaced it. My brother's went out at 3 years and he had it fixed. Recently it went out again and he replaced it with a GE.

My parents lost two LG TV's under 3 years, the compressor in my home HVAC is an LG and it went out the first time I went to use it.

I refuse to buy any LG products, won't even consider them.

I bought a Hisense bottom freezer / top fridge on the advice of the sales girl who knew what she was talking about.
Her advice: 1) keep it simple -no ice or water in the door - use ice trays; ipad like screens in the door are also a no-no. Avoid telematics, and last but not least - do not buy the most energy efficient models. Energy efficient refrigerators rely on gimmicks like linear compressors and crazy computer controls. If NOT energy efficient you can bet it’s got an old school compressor. An added plus to my fridge is no condenser to clean, it cools the Freon using the skin surface to dissipate the heat of compression. Going on 4 years now with nary a peep. Sales girl told me she’s real tuned in to what the repair staff says and customer feed back - when a fridge she sold goes south, customers let her know.
Bottom line: keep it simple stupid.
Truth there

I'm sure we both walked through the LG and Samsung stores in Seoul. Quite the difference.

The problem with trying to recommend a refrigerator is, if you own one that has given 20+ years of service, you cannot recommend it because the model that manufacturer makes today is different than the one made 20 years ago.

And the model you just bought, you haven't owned it long enough to know how long it will run until it breaks.

I tend to avoid Chinese and Korean models. My present 20+ year old refrigerator is a Kenmore that was made by Whirlpool.

Same here - when Sears was in its prime their buyers were the first customers and the OEM had to earn the Kenmore Elite badge …
Now days an honest salesman would say lucky to get 8 years from it …

Exactly and even the manufacturers are owned by different companies. GE is a perfect example now owned by a China corporation.
Frigidaire by the Swedish and made in the USA, Mexico and China.

Whirlpool is the last of what can be called an American Appliance maker and also sold under these other names as well Maytag, Amana, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and Consul.
We were really turned off by the quality look and feel of Whirlpool last year when we bought all new appliances for our new home. Actually I was shocked it was so bad, I went out shopping determined to buy Whirlpool but could not do it. Everything is LG that we bought refrigerator, washer dryer and builder installed GE (upper tier) dishwasher, cooktop, separate range. (GE is China now)

Absolutely correkt. Only LG product to buy nowadays is the OLED TVs.

This is why I like the "repair man" vids. I believe them more than consumer surveys.

The guys that work on equipment see the weaknesses and failures first. Sometimes designs are obviously flawed, esp if you know what you're looking at and what has worked in the past

And how many here have noticed how all the refrigerators and or freezers of all brands at say Home de pot, are now filled with flammable type refrigerant?

Other than the ice maker not working for 5 years and then suddenly coming back to life (still trying to decide if this counts as a positive or negative) my 8-year-old Samsung hasn't had any other issues.
We had a 2011 Samsung french door refrigerator with freezer drawer on the bottom. I'd hoped for reliability by getting the ice maker in the freezer (not on the door). About 3 years later, the ice maker stopped working. After a few days, it was clear the hose (that ran through a panel on the back of the refrigerator) had cracked and spread water/ice through the refrigerator portion. Turned it off and got refillable trays from the Dollar Store. 😀

It was still running (sans ice maker) and left, as a bonus, when we sold our home in 2022.

Based on our fridges those numbers seems plausible. This weekend taking a LG frig from 2015 to the scrap, guessing the linear compressor is out. Got all Frigidaire "Professional" appliances for our remodeled kitchen to the tune of $7,500 12/22. What a waste of money. The frig had issues with the drawers right away.. that was a debacle.. but no issues since then. They just don't seem "professional" quality and hard to clean. But no real issues but we won't buy that brand again due to the tech support with the drawer issue.
