Input on "best" refrigerators on the market wanted

Yes!! I’m supporting an ally and a friendly democracy! I’m also supporting well-made products!
I’m also supporting a friendly country that isn’t building weapons of mass destruction and a military enemy of the USA and other Democrat countries that are friends of ours.

That works for me, but free choice. What works for you and anyone else!

I still go for some Chinese products based on quality and price as well even if they’re building up the military to be used against us and our allies.
I just brought it up GE appliances is Chinese owned because many in here believe it’s an American company
Just to clarify, as I started my career with GE, GE Appliances is owned by Haier and they are using the name "GE Appliances". The actual GE company still exists, though a former shadow of itself.

I have a Sub-Zero which I spoke of before. We ordered it for our new home and it took months to get, so we got a cheap temporary GE fridge at Lowes. The GE fridge is the garage ready rated unit and has the old mechanical thermostats, so it might be a diamond in the rough. We no longer have the GE. I could have bought a box truck full of the GE fridges for what the Sub-Zero cost.

My wife and I are not fans of side-by-side refrigerators, because of the width restriction. You aren't putting a pizza box in a side-by-side. So we went with a French door model, but specifically sought out a model that has the ice maker in the freezer, and only the water dispenser in the refrigerator door.

It takes a bit to find a French Door model with ice that is not in the refrigerator, but there are a few out there.
I love pizza I never thought of the pizza box!

Agree, but your statements confusing me.
The Chinese have purchased GE appliance company so they’re not really using the name. They are GE appliances and they own GE appliances and all their US office buildings and all their US personnel.

Now true, they have last I known left the US operations pretty much hands off, meaning let them operate as they have been, but they still own them and can do whatever they want.

General Electric many years ago split itself up into many divisions, and then sold off those divisions to create shareholder value.

This is all that is left of General Electric should one invest in their company stock.
None of it has anything to do with consumer brands.

As an independent appliance parts distributer. Represent all the major brands. I buy Whirlpool or their brands Kitchenaid, JennAir, Maytag, Amana. They have nationwide service network and parts distributors throughout the country. When I have warranty repair and tech says can’t be fixed. Whirlpool has delivered new unit, no hazzle. Out of warranty most all repairmen work on Whirlpool.
Absolutely right!. Skip the big box stores and go to a local independent appliance store. The brands listed above will be good. We have a JennAir that is at least 30 years old in the kitchen now.

We have a Maytag French door with freezer on bottom. We bought new in late 2006 when we built the house. I've never replaced anything on it. Bottom freezer is nice b/c fridge is most often accessed for us. No ice maker through door & didn't want it. Water is inside the door which is fine. We have RO water plumbed to it. We would do the same configuration.

Here is the Bosch 800 series with the icemaker in the freezer.

Of note, this model has two compressors. One compressor for the refrigerator, on compressor for the freezer. Separate compressors are supposed to add to both reliability and energy efficiency.

We bought all of our appliances for our new house 22 years ago at Lowes and it worked out very well. The dryer broke and I bought a new dryer at Home Depot and it was a nightmare. Home Depot sells the dryer but a 3rd party delivers it and the 3rd party canceled the delivery, said they forgot to put it on the truck, said they didn't have it at the warehouse, said it would take a couple weeks...We canceled that and went to a local place. Very easy to work with, great price, and the dryer was delivered by their people and the delivery guy set things up properly and was very nice and professional. So, that's where I'll be shopping again.

He has a water dispenser in the door. This one doesn’t.
It doesn’t have an ice cube dispenser in the door either but if there was to be one, it would have to be in the refrigerator on this model and that is when reliability becomes a problem

Of course, that is only if you want those in the door features if not all good.

Since you brought up the two compressors that can be a problem for some people looking for a super quiet refrigerator.
There seems to be for some an issue with the Bosch two compressor refrigerators making too much noise.
You can verify this by going to the Best Buy website and look under user reviews select the people who gave it one and two stars
There is one story in there where a customer had ultimately three new refrigerators that had to be delivered before getting a quiet one.

This only matters if that is something you were looking for quiet operation. I swear to God, I can’t even hear when our refrigerator runs. It’s stupid quiet. (Yeah I opened myself up for that one) 🤪

True story, I went back to the Best Buy site to look at the reviews again, as I posted those above messages from my phone so wanted to read more on my desktop.
I accidentally went to Home Depot website and this is the latest first review I ran into. ALL appliances have issues, it's a roll of the dice but the vast majority people are happy with as the reviews show. I do question though, goes for all products, how many people go back and update glowing reviews they post when a product is new, one or more years later. I bet very few do (except me)

So the two compressor marketing for Bosch sounds great but not to this person below. Being we have an LG I am glad we only have one compressor 🤣 (as a side note, I have a reputable sounding source that I saved the link to, saying the limited years starting around 2018 of the compressor issues was fixed for the next LG bashing, *LOL*)

This is from Home Depot site.

Any brand will break...to think other wide is a fools thought process.

Remember the guy on YouTube who dresses up like the Maytag repair man, he said they are ALL bad.

On another forum, not this one, I mentioned I’m concerned that if my 2002 Kenmore Elite breaks (Maytag/Jenn-Aire/Amana back then, Whirlpool today), it’s $1900 to replace, it’s small, and has no modern features. It happens to fit into the cabinet.

A gentleman responded I fix these everyday and trust me you want to keep that one going as long as you can. Once replaced it’s not going to last. I’ve replaced the defrost thermostat 3x. Cheap $8 Amazon part.

Again everyone has an opinion including those who work with these products. It seems anyone giving a recommendation may turn out to be wrong.

Pretty sure the advice I got was 2023. This is a tough question.

Sub-Zero is excellent, as is Miele.

Looking through one of the liquidators, I see a Cafe' brand - are they part of another group? Chinese made?

I didn't even know you could buy Bosch refrigerators in the US, but before I took my chances on some scratch and dent that has probably had a rough start to life, I'd buy a new GE side x side for the same money.
Installed the Bosch yesterday. It was brand new, has a small dent on the French door. Ran so quiet I thought the refrigerator wasn't running.

Wife had to remove all the plastic film inside the refrigerator. Ordered a new French door on Bosch website. Also registered the refrigerator for the one year parts and labor warranty, and will buy the extended warranty.

Bosch website was super well designed and easy to navigate. Ordering a part could not have been easier.

Having dismantled a late model LG refrigerator yesterday, there is a significantly different build quality between the Bosch and LG.

Here is the dismantled LG that I will be taking to the dump this morning.

Hey GON, thanks for the idea on the liquidator - while we aren't quite ready yet, we will definitely be considering one! Browsing this morning showed that there could be considerable savings.
Very happy with the liquidator and the fridge. It just takes time to find the right match.

One tip, try registering the refrigerator prior to buying it. If the refrigerator registers, it likey is brand new/never installed.
