Truth thereI bought a Hisense bottom freezer / top fridge on the advice of the sales girl who knew what she was talking about.
Her advice: 1) keep it simple -no ice or water in the door - use ice trays; ipad like screens in the door are also a no-no. Avoid telematics, and last but not least - do not buy the most energy efficient models. Energy efficient refrigerators rely on gimmicks like linear compressors and crazy computer controls. If NOT energy efficient you can bet it’s got an old school compressor. An added plus to my fridge is no condenser to clean, it cools the Freon using the skin surface to dissipate the heat of compression. Going on 4 years now with nary a peep. Sales girl told me she’s real tuned in to what the repair staff says and customer feed back - when a fridge she sold goes south, customers let her know.
Bottom line: keep it simple stupid.
My sister learned the hard way - I even had two fail renting a place in Korea LoL (landlord replaced) …Sorry OP, LG (especially their refrigerators) are hot garbage. I've previously posted my dad's went out at 3 years, he just replaced it. My brother's went out at 3 years and he had it fixed. Recently it went out again and he replaced it with a GE.
My parents lost two LG TV's under 3 years, the compressor in my home HVAC is an LG and it went out the first time I went to use it.
I refuse to buy any LG products, won't even consider them.

Same here - when Sears was in its prime their buyers were the first customers and the OEM had to earn the Kenmore Elite badge …The problem with trying to recommend a refrigerator is, if you own one that has given 20+ years of service, you cannot recommend it because the model that manufacturer makes today is different than the one made 20 years ago.
And the model you just bought, you haven't owned it long enough to know how long it will run until it breaks.
I tend to avoid Chinese and Korean models. My present 20+ year old refrigerator is a Kenmore that was made by Whirlpool.
Exactly and even the manufacturers are owned by different companies. GE is a perfect example now owned by a China corporation. The problem with trying to recommend a refrigerator is, if you own one that has given 20+ years of service, you cannot recommend it because the model that manufacturer makes today is different than the one made 20 years ago.

Absolutely correkt. Only LG product to buy nowadays is the OLED TVs.Sorry OP, LG (especially their refrigerators) are hot garbage. Mine's from 1994, I did unplug the water dispenser and ice maker though.I have a GE that I got in 1998...still works fine....
Mine did act up too but really don't use it much so did not replace...Mine's from 1994, I did unplug the water dispenser and ice maker though.
This is why I like the "repair man" vids. I believe them more than consumer surveys. The problem with trying to recommend a refrigerator is, if you own one that has given 20+ years of service, you cannot recommend it because the model that manufacturer makes today is different than the one made 20 years ago.

We had a 2011 Samsung french door refrigerator with freezer drawer on the bottom. I'd hoped for reliability by getting the ice maker in the freezer (not on the door). About 3 years later, the ice maker stopped working. After a few days, it was clear the hose (that ran through a panel on the back of the refrigerator) had cracked and spread water/ice through the refrigerator portion. Turned it off and got refillable trays from the Dollar Store.Other than the ice maker not working for 5 years and then suddenly coming back to life (still trying to decide if this counts as a positive or negative) my 8-year-old Samsung hasn't had any other issues.
