Sure it can ..but I'm not going to just blindly say that I'd recommend it. There are some conditions where you wouldn't recommend any synthetic nor recommend any extended drain. Not that the oil wouldn't make the distance/time finish line ..but that it didn't make economical sense to use it. Much depends on what the customer's goals are.

Take that Lumina owner, for example. She needed a "set it and forget it" oil change. She knew how to check her own oil and add it (she ordered an extra quart). She did enough mileage to warrant the cost. No problem. The only issue was outside of the oil's ability to do its job. It was a design problem.

Thank you Gary!

It is nice to see someone who is selling something also be honest.

A rare bird these days!

I appreciate your point of view....but for most people with a car they purchased new and that exhibits no problems it seems to be a poor alternative to just purchasing a better oil and filter to run. I certainly agree that the Uoas are interesting and informative.

You forgot to add that they are FUN! And, good for your skin.

I used them to make sure my highway driving style was truly as "easy" on the oil/engine as many assume. In my case, it is true, I can exceed the Manufacturer's longest recommended OCI by a factor of more than double, with no problem. THAT is good, practical information in my case, saving time and money, because now I have 6 OCI's a year instead of 14-15. (yes, I drive a lot!)

Agree that for some they are beneficial.I reached my conclusion by reading the Uoas, including yours, that for my 6-7k 70/30 highway driving, a uoa would be more novelty than needed.

I use UOA's for one basic reason. To decide whether to keep a vehicle or trade it when it hits 100-120k. What I am mostly looking for is coolant & fuel dilution & air filtration. Coolant & fuel dilution showing up on a UOA can be invaluable in deciding what to do next. Well worth $22 to be able to look inside the engine without turning a wrench.

Same for motorcycles. One UOA can tellyou if you are getting primary oil leaking into the engine well before either grenades or trans oil in the primary or coolant in a water cooled bike etc.

Do I want to know if my oil can go another 300 miles...never. Because I change early and often. But for the big decisions of keep or trade...UOA is invaluable. IMHO.

I do understand your reasoning. Most of us get hooked on UOA and end up polishing the mirror to see how much better we can have the reflection look

...but it has saved a few a whole lot and doesn't hurt for a check up just to see if everything is up to par. As many have said, there are millions of units that don't get one and drive under full power into the junkyard.

Bill: Thanks for the kind words. I do owe it to Amsoil to do everything I can to put my best foot forward. I don't want a dissatisfied customer bashing the stuff due to anything I did or did not do. I may not be the most knowledgeable dealer out there (there are a LOT of products) ..but I do what I can to give the customer value. Service is the only thing that I can sell. The product they can get anywhere
