"Unique" single family home that needs more work than imaginable in Leola, SD- $270k USD

The challenge I see with that is modern building code has been updated so lots to tear up and out.

I cannot stand that type of home no matter how fancy or well done. No thanks!!!
You don't have to rebuild existing structure to new building codes, plus a roof system like that should be engineered, so then you can do whatever you can find an engineer to approve.
We have a 4' cantilevered balcony over garage doors(code doesn't allow that) but, it was $400 to get an engineer to draw up the plans and stamp it.

Someone spent a lot of money to get it that far. I don't think that is the prosperous side (oil side) of SD either?

I agree that 1/2 acre isn't likely what someone is going to want in this type of property - but maybe I am wrong.

Divorce or illness halted progress years ago is my guess.

I was also thinking illness or death and this project stalled.

Looks like a McMansion to me.

Could stick another 800 k to 1.2m all on @1/2 acre that looks likes its in the middle of nowhere. Has radiate floor heat looks for the lower level but haven't seen any plumbing rough in. Not with my money.
