So we can assume synthetic oil is not the only one that provides clean engines. Therefore if you want a clean engine you do not have to use Mobil instead Pyb will get the same results with the right oci applied... For this I shaved my legs??? Not the best picture, sorry. But now I know how to post a picture on BITOG

Soon I'll be pulling the valve cover off as it needs done due to leaky gasket letting oil into spark plug wells.

So your saying that everyone that uses synthetic oil is a sucker?? That includes a lot of us here at BITIG. Why do you find it necessary to insult so many here?

What oil and oci?

Most OCIs are less than 4k. I am 2k into this cycle with G-Oil with a Purolator Classic L20195. The previous OCI was also G-Oil with a Fram TG3600 which I ran for 3385 miles

Thats pretty dirty for syn and short ocis. Whats the deal? Was it a sludger when you got it?

Tig, that's fantastic. BTW, you've inspired me to do 10K ocis in the wife's 07 Camry. Right now it's filled with M1 0W20, next oil change will be the M1EP 5W20. I just can't get away from the need to do a little overkill.

No I am not insulting anyone I am just saying if you are using Syn and you really do not need it you are being taken. Suggesting 10k is great if you live in a area rual highway etc. That fact can be misleading. Doing 10ks on Mobil 1 in Astoria NY would lead to big trouble IMHO. Not meant to insult rather my aim was to inform much like your threads try to do.All

of the gabber leads to no conclusion which makes it tough.

Even though I live here in the heartland and apparently am just a bit uninformed by NY standards IYV, I still stand by by my claim of 10K OCIs for most engines with the oil I use(M1) is very easy to do.

from 7/2008 in my Mazda which had 253,840 at the time (I'm about to junk it now with 340k+, original clutch still going)

1993 Mazda 2.0L
oil change history:
0-80k unknown (first owner)
80-175k M1 ~5k intervals
175-250k whatever sale/rebate synthetic I had stocked at ~5k intervals

No I know your area quite well and I think you can go 30miles before any traffic and lights are rare. I just mean 10k are great for some areas not all remember you never did a uoa in your life and the only check you do is the oil fill hole. Scary sometimes.

Otto,
I actually did two UOAs about 4 years ago. One on the Focus and the other on my old Merc GM. I did them for the curiosity of it. Both were fine. I actually plan to do one on the Focus this or the next OC to check for silicon as this engine has the lifetime air filter. Oil contamination is about the only reason I see to do UOAs. Metal PPM and TBN doesn't concern me with just 10K OCIs.

I posted these on a separate thread:

Corolla using dino oils for the first 80,000 miles. Just finished the first OCI with synthetic (QS advance). There were several MMO/kreen piston soaks in the past.

Passat 1.8t on Mobil1 0-40 @5k OCIs (clogged PCV system creates this, not the oil). Before/after fixing PCV and manually cleaning the underside of the cover.

Ooh yes, I second this! I actually wanted to run G for this OCI but I couldn't find any (admittedly I only looked in 2 places).
