Kitacamry was bought @ 97k miles...owner1 says oil was changed every 5k miles by Curly Moe and Larry and they say their basic conventional OC was Shell 5w-30...
Owner1 traded it in and the dealer changed oil to PYB (bulk) 5w-30 and after inspecting/cleaning/reinstalling the gunked PCV valve you see here, I decided to change the oil to PP 5w-30 @ 3k miles and replace the PCV valve and PCV hose as well as remove the valve cover to inspect underneath...

Little more than varnishing on the engine and some residue on the inside of the valve cover likely from heat caused by the old gunked-up PCV valve....

I thought the engine ran very smoothly before OC (showroom quiet in fact), but after PP OC it runs more smoothly, and even more quietly as well...but the improvements may be attributed to new Denso iridium long-life plugs replacing factory installed plugs and a throttle body cleaning as well...whatever the source of improvement, it is noticeable and appreciated

....unless I experience oil burn-off or any leakage (there was none with the conventional oil) I'll be staying with PP 5w-30 from here-on-out...

So do you have a thread about the car?

How long were you running M1 HM at the time of that pic?

I was surprised at its cleanliness since maintenance had always been a back-burner priority on that car... the entire area was clean with what I would call a light yellow/gold stain.

The reason I had the valve cover off.... the valve cover gasket suddenly squirted out the side just like shooting a pumpkin seed out. After 225,000 miles went from no oil leaks or usage to just drizzling oil - all at once. Maybe the Mobil 1 was too slippery, making it shoot out!

Anyway, a new valve cover gasket, and a couple of minutes spinning the hold down nuts and I was on my way.

Both engines are very clean. In fact they look the same as when I bought the cars. I know you did 20K OCIs on your Ford with success, but I still do 10K as has been my habit for the last 35 yeras with M1.

2008 Honda CR-V with about 60k miles at the time. Maintenance history up through about 45k miles (prior ownership) was oil changes at the Honda dealer (VWB 5W-20) at MM intervals (usually around 7-7.5k). Maintenance since 45k miles (my ownership) has been some sort of synthetic or blend at 5k mile intervals, but now back to MM intervals.

Took the cylinder head cover off only because I was curious.

You are rich!! I heard rumors that Toyota would occasionally make an engine out of gold. Now I've seen it with my own eyes!

It will be interesting to see what pp does to it over time.

1 year and 2 months... But only 1560 miles. My school is less than 2 miles from my house, so i do nothing but short trips with this car.

I am reformed now Tig... with the Corolla and Sienna I have changed to 10K intervals. I purchased oil and filters regularly for warranty purposes...enough receipts to prove a 5 k oil change interval if you did not notice we own two cars...and now they are both out of warranty.

With the commuter and ski-trip Corolla already at 85,000 miles, and the Sienna towing a 5,000 lb boat 4 days a week for our watershows, sometimes very long distances.... already at 66,000 miles.... The Mobil 1 0W20 is working very well. The eyeball camera through the filler hole says PERFECT.

Acura/Honda J32A1 V6 front bank , 98k ( I think, it was right before 100k ).

Wow. Factory fresh. Nice job.

2ZZ-GE @ 102k

At the time, Aug '12, checked lift bolts to find that they didn't break. Also, the two owners before me did a decent job with whatever they used.

Here is my 06 Mazda 3 at over 100k. It saw a varriety of oils both synthetic and dino, but for the last 50k miles or so, I run nothing but dino in it.

And my 03 Focus ZX5 at about 85k. The guy I bought it from serviced it exclusively at Ford dealer so naturally the car only saw MC 5w20. Current fill is PYB.
