They are. Besides this truck I put a lot of miles on them in Crown Vics. In 20 years I don't recall we ever had a problem with an engine.

17 years ago working at the Ford dealer we serviced all the local Crown Vic police cars. I never once saw an engine or transmission failure, while we saw multiple failures every week on explorers, Windstars, escapes, etc.
One ambulance explorer went through 5 transmissions (what happens when you drive an Explorer hard I guess).
