The human brain may not be able to comprehend technology from advanced species or possibly not differentiate it from magic. If the believer's are correct and we have had spacecraft/alien's in our possession since at least 1947, it's possible that it has taken our earthbound scientist's 7 decades to exploit some of that technology.I do have to wonder, we went from horse and buggy to space travel in 100 years. If an intelligent civilization exists, what could they have accomplished technology wise, if they were say 10,000( or more) years ahead of us?

I prefer string theory and the 26, 10 or 11 dimensions depending on which one you'd like to follow. At least with string theory, you have some math to back it up, but unfortunately, there's no way to prove it yet.I hope that Jaques Vallee's multidimensional hypothesis doesn't get forgotten about. Vallee's hypothesis that interdimensional intrusions have been with us forever and that we see leprechaun's or little grey men, Our Lady of Faitima or flying saucers based on our cultural expectations and that we're not looking at the projector but at our own mental screen made as much sense as any ufology when I read his books.
