The Pentagon Has Officially Released Three Videos Showing UFOs The videos, which had been leaked and seen before, show Navy pilots interacting with what the Pentagon has called "unidentified aerial phenomena." Ellie Hall BuzzFeed News Reporter Posted on April 27, 2020, at 3:27 p.m. ET [Linked Image from img.buzzfeed.com] Still image from one of the 2015 videos / Via Department of Defense The Department of Defense has officially released three declassified videos showing Navy pilots interacting with "unidentified aerial phenomena," aka UFOs. In a statement Monday, the Pentagon said following a "thorough review," it had determined that the videos do not reveal "any sensitive capabilities or systems" and that their release "does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of [these types of] military air space incursions." Of the three incidents seen in these videos, the first occurred in November 2004, and the other two in January 2015. In its statement, the Pentagon acknowledged the fact that these clips had been leaked into the public domain years ago. A Department of Defense spokesperson said they were releasing the videos "in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos." The 2004 video was brought to light in a New York Times story published Dec. 16, 2017, which included interviews with the two pilots who observed the encounter. Still image from the 2004 video / Via Department of Defense The pilots described seeing an oblong object about 40 feet long hovering about 50 feet above the water. When they approached, the object rapidly ascended into the air and out of sight. "It accelerated like nothing I've ever seen," one of the pilots said in the interview. Following the story's publication, the Pentagon acknowledged the existence of its Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, which was founded in 2007 and disbanded in 2012. The purpose of the program, which received $22 million in funding, was to study reports of unidentified flying objects. In May 2019, the New York Times published another story featuring two new videos from January 2015 of Navy pilots encountering similar unidentified objects during flights. The story included interviews with a number of pilots who described seeing extraordinarily strange objects racing through the air. "Wow, what is that, man?" a pilot can be heard saying in one of the videos. "Look at it fly!" Although the Pentagon had confirmed the previously leaked videos were authentic, Monday is the first time they have been officially released. And, per the statement, it still hasn't reached a conclusion about what the videos show. "The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as 'unidentified,'" it said. My opinion? The government has some records of such activity but they don't know exactly what the objects are and if alien life form is on the vessel(s). We send space craft to explorer Jupiter, Saturn... Do you think our automated spacecraft will be a little more capable 1000 years from now? It's possible we are being explored by more advanced civilization(s) far, far away from us. We don't fully know how aliens communicate so to assume we should be able to pick up communication signals may prove wrong. I'm guessing they use a split second signal that can send a massive amount of data so fast we don't have the capability of seeing that it exist.

The most reasonable answer is that it is some classified US, Russian or Chinese stealth and propulsion tech. A F4 Phantom pilot would have been equally amazed observing an SR-71 Blackbird in flight.

So far, the only two explanations offered by BITOG have been: 1. Alien Spacecraft 2. Secret super technology Neither of those are plausible, to be blunt. Here is the critical point: it is UNIDENTIFIED. Unidentified does not mean "Alien". The conspiracy theory of aliens visiting Earth has become so ingrained in our culture that we accept the ludicrous as plausible. The crash at Roswell actually happened, but it was not aliens. It was a very deeply classified US government surveillance system, based on balloons, to monitor Soviet Nuclear activity. When the crash of that system happened, and the USAF was trying to keep the system from being revealed, they fanned the flames of conspiracy by letting the press run with wild theories, just as long as none of them got close to the truth. The distances to be covered to visit our fair planet mean that Alien visits/surveillance are extraordinarily unlikely. The speed of light, and the nature of propulsion (until we get warp drive, Star Trek fans) mean that visits are decades long affairs if the traveler has propulsion that is thousands of times more efficient that ours. Very unlikely. The super secret technology is equally unlikely. The velocities and propulsion efficiency implied by the "incredible acceleration" simply aren't even on the drawing board. Mach 3+ is about the limit for turbine technology. Beyond that has proved problematic. And vehicles capable of those Hypersonic speeds use rockets, which gives you short flight times, and have very small wing and control surfaces, which gives you little turning ability. So, what explains it? Sensor glitches. I've watched the videos, too. I've spent a lot of time looking at radars, etc. and there are times when FLIR, or radar, presents things that cannot be so. The processor thinks so, but that doesn't make them accurate. The problem is this: like Roswell, if we explained straight out what the glitches were, we reveal the limitations and capabilities of the sensors. That's highly classified and there are lots of good reasons to keep those technical, real explanations, very quiet. Have you seen the video where an airliner is clearly flying backwards? From the observer with their cellphone in a moving car, it's very clear that the airplane is moving backwards while on final approach into the airport. The observers are astonished by this. They should be. It's physically impossible. But the relative motions of car, trees, and airliner interact in way that the airliner appears to be moving backwards. They swear to what they saw and the video supports their belief, but the physical reality does not match the human perception. And that's the point: human perception wasn't built around flight, or high speeds. Our eyes register data, and our visual cortexes trick us and force observations into knowable, familiar reference frames. In puzzles and games we call this, an "optical illusion". In flight, where humans aren't fully adapted perceptually, this happens often. And the simplest explanation: optical illusion, or sensor glitch, is the most likely in this case. Those pilots couldn't fit what they were seeing into a normal reference frame. I can't either. But they weren't visited by aliens or super secret airplanes.

Okay..All of what you say makes sense, however weren't these UFO's picked up by more than one aircraft at the same time? If so, wouldn't that deflate the computer error explanation? In addition IIRC that one of these events included a visual observation of the UFO by more than one individual.

An excellent summary! thumbsup Buster I believe it was had previously posted something similar in General Topics and many theories and possible explanations were presented. Speculation abounds on this topic but nothing it seems has been tested by the scientific method. Here are some definitions to help frame the scientific method: Conjecture - the formation or expression of an opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof; an opinion or theory so formed and often expressed as a guess. See speculation. Hypothesis - a less complete or less tested idea. Postulate - a thing suggested or assumed as true as the basis for reasoning, discussion, or belief. When postulating we must be careful not to fall into a presumption fallacy called petitio principii which is: "A form of circular reasoning in which a conclusion is derived from premises that presuppose the conclusion." Science - a systematic methodology for investigating natural phenomena. Scientific Method in a Nutshell - Speculation, postulation, then Hypothesizing, then Theory development. Once a Theory has been shown to be self-consistent and supported by empirical data over the long-term, it may then become a Law, as in the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics. Speculation - an untested idea. Theory - a well-tested body of related ideas often accompanied by mathematical formulation that can be applied to a variety of cases and often supported by interpretations of physical data or observations. Unfortunately many professionals fall into the trap of starting out with a theory and only see or include those details that can fit the theory, thereby possibly ignoring contradictory or discordant data. Theory must fit data and observations, not the other way around, i.e., we must never force observations and data to fit a theory. Now there have been patents (and many are suspect) disclosed that discuss certain theoretical possibilities such as anti-gravity and space warp but these remain theoretical and until the actual, physical engineering has been executed and proven to work, they remain theoretical. A patent simply says one has presented a novel idea that has not been thought of by others, or an idea that improves on an idea that has not been previously disclosed.

Without necessarily agreeing with every single point, thank you for the excellent and detailed overview....
