The post stated 162,000 miles before a broken spring and valve.

The OCI was 5K miles with mostly off-brand gas. No other details were provided.

Seems like a lot of carbon buildup to me.

Thoughts and I just thought some would like to see it.

internet etiquette. you if you quote some guy or use his pictures....

you are supposed to include a link its just the right thing to do.
Call the internet etiquette police on me. Ridiculous...it's some pictures posted on an anonymous forum to discuss the content in the picture - I'm not stealing intellectual property or his Pulitzer Prize.

I wouldn't say it is a known issue, but this did happen on the early 5.7's. Toyota seemed to have some valve spring issues around that time across their line-up. Their was a recall on some of the IS models. My FIL's 08 Camry broke a valve spring as well:

I think it was more common early in the production run. I think I saw a Youtube video with a Toyota Mastertech (AMD?) who said he's seen it happen pre-2014?

That was correct.....Usually it seemed to occur on # 5 cylinder.....This man is not trying to violate any posting laws.....I just notice that as time goes on, the PTBs can't seem to get enough power over others....Absolute power corrupts absolutely.....He is not violating any copyright laws......If he was, he would have to make some form of profit on what he posted.....or willingly claim the pics were his.....He has done neither.....

Apparently you haven't seen the insides of many engines. I think it looks quite clean. Even the piston tops and combustion chambers.
+1

I can still see cross-hatching in the cylinder bore in one of the pics, and everything looks pretty clean. With the carbon build up it probably burned some oil, or was short tripped? Hard to say without knowing its history/use. Sucks about the valve spring issue.

just easier to say known issue that was silently rectified. same as other brands

supply is low demand is high, the vehicles they’re put in being long lifespan and not wrecked as often is the obvious one

Maybe I should post this to the YTA section of reddit
If I was going to rip off repost a guys story and pics I'd have a little "more info here" link etc.

Example:
If I took all the pics posted on bitog of cut open oil filters and reposted them to another forum with no crediting the OP's that would be rude .

This may be one of those agree to disagree issues.

I know you're "stuck" on this but I really don't care. Fine, we agree to disagree.

I think it was mostly pre-2010. Occasionally you will still see a post about broken valve springs, but it is fairly rare.
