I have some Reward money from my Ford dealer that I need to use soon or loose it.
Even though I do my own OCs using Syn oil and syn filters, I am thinking of getting the MC Blend OC. But all the talk on here about the FL-820S that the Explorer uses makes me wonder if it is worth it.
I was even thinking of using the leftover rewards to get some oil and air filters at the parts department, for future DIY OCIs.

Would you trust the FL-820S for a short OCI (6 mo)?

It used to be considered a good filter. Maybe you can pick up a car battery, they get good reviews too.

I use the FL820S on the Taurus and have for some years now. I cut each open after the 5k OCI and have had nothing but filters that have done their job.

Ah yes, nothing like dealer-installed scratches!

Since you asked, for a reasonable 6 month 5-6k mi. oci, I would. One recently posted recently HERE went farther over slightly less time and looked good.

Just to make sure I'm learning what's what, the 820s is regarded as the red-headed step child among Motocraft filters, correct? I know there's still some scare-a-noia regarging Motorcraft/Puro etc but that's not what I'm worried about. I'm not worried at all, really, I just want to know that my FL-400s on my Focus is A-OK!

How much reward money are we talking here? you could always pick up the Ford racing version of the 820s. online its about $20, dealer may charge more.

I've used the FL820s on an explorer, and my mustang many times. While I've never cut them open, i've never had an issue. If there is any doubt though, like others are saying pick up some MC oil and an air filter.

Use with confident, how many cars, trucks, getting oil change at dealer using motorcraft and none came back with blow engine.

MOST OF THESE STORY YOU HEARD FROM THESE PEOPLES ABOUT FILTER BEING TORN OR DAMAGE, ARE ETHER FAKE !!!! OR MAKE UP [censored], OR USER FAULT, that BEING CHEAP AND over extent the filter and using way pass their life of the filter, or damage during cut open the filter, then blame everything on the filter. Its just a peggy plaint dumb to me. I pity the fool.

The motorcraft oil filter is perfect for 5k or 5-6 month which ever come first. If you looking for something double or longer, look for Fram Ultra.

I use it and still currently using motorcraft oil filter, on ALL my ford.

Yep, that was ran on my truck. Car51 cut & posted it for me. I'm 100% satisfied with the way it looked, I don't think you could've asked for much better from a filter I spent less than $4 on at Walmart! I have a Tough Guard TG2 that was ran on the same truck for 7,213 miles that'll be going to car51 soon enough.

To OP: Use the FL-820S with confidence. If it really bothers you that bad then request an FL-500S. It will fit & work just fine & they tend to look better than their big brother 820.
