Toyota, why are you absent from the EV races?

That's your style. When the facts are on the table you turn to nonsense.
I try and respect your knowledge, but find your reasoning lacking.
That is hugely disappointing to me because I believe you have a lot to offer.
Tell me what is that oversized iPad other than cost cutting? That plastic inside could very well be from Dacia.
I am dead serious.

Toyota is actively developing them and/or figuring out who to buy to gain tech. They just are not announcing to market.
I'm sure you are correct. The CEO replacement is evicence of that. Totoya will accelerate their development in vehicles of all types.
Their current lineup is old skool dependable.
And it is not just Toyota, all the car companies are in development mode. I wish them well.

I have two kids. I'm not always in town because of my job which is why we need two vehicles. I don't get to fly. My vacation allotment is sparse and I'm on call 6 days a week. You can probably infer from that I am not paid peanuts. The family hauler is the Tesla. The GTI is the car I take for work most times. I've had bigger, flashier vehicles in the past but I don't really see the point in that. I'm more about the driving experience than anything else and landing on these two seemed a much more affordable selection. I love cars, I just refuse to overpay for the experience, though the experience of the drive is very important. The electricity cost to drive is cheap. Much cheaper even than the GTI's fuel. It's not even close. Yes it's possible to buy a very expensive Tesla. That's not what we did. At the end of the day regardless of what I make I can't see having it wrapped up in a depreciating asset and there's a ton of excellent driving experiences well under $100k anyway, or in my case under $50k that fit a family of 4.
So, how do you vacation? No or your kids are older?
You alone are saying tour lifestyle allows you to be flexible with vehicles. I know people that have only one vehicle, and in case of my friend, it is 911.
So yeah, Tesla is for rich, or upper middle class. Middle class or those trying to get there, drive Highlander.

You are comparing Tesla to other cars. Tesla is not trying to be like other cars. They do not do leather. They do not do a plethora or knobs or dials.
The screen allows for upgrades that manual controls do not.

It's real simple. If you want a traditional dash, leather interior, or whatever, don't shop a Tesla.
And don't expect Tesla to follow, you will be disappointed. I have said many times, these cars are not for everyone.
Will Tesla change course and find they were wrong? Perhaps. The Plaid steering wheel is an example.
Tesla is the leader and certainly a disrupter. The oversized ipad is an example, like it or not.

I tell you what... If you learned the capabilities of the oversized ipad, I bet you would be impressed.

This is ignorant. Guessing you've never worked a railroad job? I don't get much for vacation time. It's rare I can go anywhere with set vacation. I don't know what you mean by flexible with vehicles. I need two cars so my wife can take care of the children when I'm out of town for 2-3 days at a time, usually twice a week. I'm sorry the Tesla doesn't meet your standard for a middle class vehicle like the Highlander. We've decided it meets our needs well without being an oversized SUV.

Why does the Tesla upset you so much? I'm really confused at what the problem is here?

Ok. And it is cheaper.
Installing iPad in the middle is not leap forward. It doesn’t even have HUD.
It is designed by IT person, on that doesn’t necessarily have DL.

Railroad job? No. Did you sell apples at flea market at 12? So, spare me that BS.

You found yourself called out by me. Ok, you are exception. Happy?

Oh I have it easy then? Should sign up and try it out and see if you can handle it. If money is a problem that'll show you what's required to make 6 figures on no sleep on call for 6 straight days. You're right, I live in absolute luxury. Spare me if you think I'm bothered by something you perceive as a luxury with my screwed up lifestyle. I worked a farm at a very young age. This isn't a **** measuring contest, or at least it shouldn't be. What are you upset about that makes you worried about what others do? Everyone has their own struggles. Why are you trying to judge others for it?

Do you know it is cheaper? Let's say it is... Less parts and less cost is a good thing in manufacturing.
You say installing an ipad is not a step forward; that's your opinion. Ask today's kids what they want.
In fact, it offers far more functionality than manual controls; manual controls are limited in functionality and are prone to failure. Sofeware based controls allow for OTA fixes, improvements and new functionality.

How do you know who designed the Tesla screen?
About HUD; I used to say Tesla should have HUD like our RX.
But I am wavering on that. HUD has the speed and other information on the base of the windshield. Outstanding, amazing and well done.
The Touchscreen has your speed at the top left corner of the display; just off your right hand. It becomes part of your periphreal vision.
The display also has all the lanes of the road and all the cars around you. Far more than any HUD. You would have to look at both outside mirrors, rear view mirroe and windshield at the same time to get what is just to the immeadiate right of your hand. This is what I have come to learn and what I believe you might consider. Maybe I was wrong.

Is it better? That's up to each of us. Personally I have learned to appreciate both. Now if you hit your turn signal, the Tesla Touchscreen has hands down the best image out there.

Things are changing. There is plenty of old skool out there for those who prefer it. But no HUD has the information that the Touchscreen displays. Once it became part of my periphreal vision, I found it amazing.

Jusy my opinion, but I don't think you need to tell anyone about your personal life. You don't owe anyone anything.

Do you have to make your point by insulting people?
Actually, I am not sure I understand what your point is.
If I were to insult people you would know it. Tell me why all of a sudden are the drones enamored with Evs ? Honda and Toyota opened the door with their cars I can not recall the Honda and the Prius then the plug in Prius, then like magic there was their is anoverflowing of people wanting to get a Ev . Lets call it the Ev pandemic for lack of a better phrase. I have worked on electric forklifts I know what Ev can do I see the cars and they are representative of the electric forklifts advantages and the disadvantage. Having an Ev would , work well for some on the driving I do but I am not getting shaky legs to buy one nor do I put those down that have them. I want to know the sudden push other that the tv and government propaganda for pushing the Evs to the public.

Seems like the simple answer is that Toyota just doesn’t want to ditch the hybrid tech they’re tens of billions of dollars and decades in to 🤷🏼‍♂️. They’ll say almost anything to keep their hybrid sales up.

I’m looking at the labor angle. I don’t know how hybrids, which are terribly complicated and time-consuming to engineer and build, will ultimately compete with the simplicity and speed of EV production.
