The first 2 numbers stand for my previous UOA's, Amsoil 5W-30 *ASL* @ 8018 miles - and Pennzoil 5W-30 Synthetic - 4485 miles, respectively.

Here are the results in PPM:

Water % 0 0 0
Glycol NEG NEG NEG
TBN 7.36 4.84 3.26
OXID 10 15 25
NITR 19 26 31

Now in PPM per 1 k miles:

Iron: .374 .892 .936
Chromium: 0 .223 0
Lead: .125 .669 .187
Copper: .624 .892 .749
Aluminum: .374 .619 .562
Silicon: 1.996 3.344 2.059

I'd appreciate any comments.

By the way, I'm done with trying out different oils. Now I'm back to Amsoil 5W-30 -ASL- and I will be sampling @ 5k mile intervals until the numbers warrant changing the oil. Will the oil go 25k miles? Only time and several UOA's will tell. My apologies for not being able to post the numbers in tables. I will need help for next time.

Good plan. Considering the current relative strength of the Can$, the fact that you live in Aldergrove and I live in Lynden - would you like to buy at USA Amsoil prices + a discount?

BTW all the reports show you have one clean running machine!

Yes-you have a good vehicle here. I'd go back to tha Amsoil also. You should be able to go 15K-no problem. I would change the filter at 8k or so and take a sample.

Again very impressive.

But what is not impressive is the shearing down of the other oils other than Amsoil.

This is the same oil that just arrived on my shores. Known here as Caltex Havoline Energy Synthetic 5w30. The oil thinning and low tbn is no surprise since this oil is only rated API SL, ACEA A1/B1-02. Furthermore there is no mention of it being "Fully" synthetic. Probably just a blend.

Maybe the better choice would be the Havoline Fully Synthetic 5w40 which has an API SL, ACEA A3-02 rating.

It was some leftover SJ rated oil I bought at Walmart a while ago. Couldn't resist the low price of $1.97 per liter. But compared to Amsoil it doesn't appear to be such a great deal, considering the wear numbers.

If it's SJ, then it's the Equilon rather than the Chevron Havoline. All in all, I don't think it looks that bad for a $2 oil (or a $1.25 U.S. oil--even better), especially rated SJ and from a vendor (Shell) that doesn't seem to have the greatest respect. I'd expect the typical group III to go about half as far as Amsoil and it looks like that's what happened.

Ken, something tells me that unless you're "Caltex Havoline Energy Synthetic 5w30" is "Made in USA"....it's not the same stuff we have here so a direct comparison is not possible.
