Tough Guard vs Ultra Guard

Both have Silicone ADBV.

I'm not sure metal endcaps are an advantage. They may be more prone to separation from the media.

Gold paint is an advantage?

Anyway, Wix XP/Napa Platinum often goes on sale around the same prices or even less than a TG and is available in more applications than the XG Ultra is

With the improved extra guard, the TG is somewhat redundant IMO. $$$ too.

The Ultra has the ugliest paint job IMO. Silver and orange is good though.

I always double check what I'm buying.

I doubt over the life of the vehicle the only difference would be if one of filter failed in a way that would clog an oil passage.

I always double check what I'm buying.

I went to one of my local Fleet Farm stores today hoping to buy a Tough Guard 7317 with a silicone ADBV. They had at least a dozen available but only 3 with a silicone ADBV, all the others had the suspect black ADBV. Dates codes on the 3 REAL Tough Guards all indicated an October 12, 2021 manufacture. This is going on my friend's 2018 Honda HRV.

Yes I used to always check my XG boxes before I got to the checkout stand. Good thing to because I did find a cheaper filter in 1 of the 4 filters I was going to buy.
