Wix 51334 = Premium Guard?

I found this interesting… to me this very much looks like a Premium Guard. Design is identical to both MGL51334 and MSL51334 with the only visible differences being filter length, color of gasket, and color of ADBV varying between them.

I can understand that they might outsource to a competitor for certain low volume part numbers, but 51334 is still a hot seller!

Have we come full circle now and Premium Guard is taking over the world? Haha.

Maybe Wix decided to go Premium Guard too since NAPA kicked them to the curb on the NAPA Golds to now have Premium Guard make them. Anything is possible in the chaotic Whack-a-Mole oil filter world, lol.

Did you see where the filter was made? Certainly possible with the other changes we've seen w/their new "resin" media (XP). Their cheaper (Non XP) filters, like you show, would be the first to be outsourced. They seem to be in cost cutting mode.

Yes, in 2023 I remember talking to one of the heads or managers at headquarters. The guy told me "what you're seeing is a sea change across the industry" regarding their infiltration within the market.

PG usually has an 8 hole base plate and a bright red ADBV. That doesn’t mean they didn’t make that though. Does it say leak tested on it?

M+H does have a S Korea plant. We’ve seen made in South Korea Purolator One’s.

Nah, at least I highly doubt it. Many 51334 application OF have been made in S Korea for quite a while. For a while M&H/Mann made the SK Hyun/Kia OEM filters, same application. The S.Korea 1334 always looked very similar to the Hyun/Kia OEM filters. As with many topics, the S Korea coo Wix 1334/OG Napa Gold 51334 been discussed here before. Not going to try, but expect a site search would reveal some of those discussions.

I thought this was interesting, and for me another reason to buy their products, even though I should be done buying oil filters, very happy with the Boss and have plenty. It’s pertinent because they talk about the scale of MH worldwide. If pg can sell for $10, so can they by making it themselves, or contracting, but the product will have MH warranty and design elements. Just more to go back and forth about.
