Fram Tough Guard Opinions ?

We had a member here with the same problem.

You confirmed my suspicion that the people having this issue live someplace where vehicle rust is a big problem.

Walmart has continued with full inventory of Fram Ultra and Tough Guard on the shelf (I don’t buy below the Tough Guard quality level) . I did not see Fram Endurance oil filters any longer at my local Walmart though.

Been using Fram oil filters since 1968....Still waiting for one to fail................... :D 🍿
How have you determined none have failed?

Even I haven’t cut open every filter I’ve used. Buy the number of Fram problems posted here alone I’d imagine we’ve all run a bad one at some point.

well with many of my cars over that period over 200000 miles and a few over 350000 I think they worked fine.....

So you’re not sure if the filters had internal problems?

I too have taken many cars over 200-300k miles. Current one is at 150k and found at least 5 Fram Endurance failures that I’ve run. Luckily the failures were not catastrophic, just that the oil was bypassing the media.

Most of the problems started when First Brands took over. Now they’re going bankrupt…..

Over that span I had no oil related issues..as a matter of fact no engine issues at all...so based on my use...I plan on sticking with Fram Oil and air filters and Mobil 1 oil.....Work for me and dont see any reason to overthink this....

Use what you’re comfortable with. Others and myself will continue to post cut open filters so folks can make informed decisions. BITOG is the best resource available for up to date filter construction!

My guess most on this thread use FRAM and are a fan. I decided MANY years ago to stop using Fram.
My decision to stop using Fram was not because I experienced any failure but because of oil forums like this and YouTube as I could read about and see with my own eyes what people were saying about Fram filters and how it was built.

I may be wrong in my feelings and I am open to change but when I first seen a video of the Fram card board end caps something in my brain said " inexpensive". The price at Walmart says "inexpensive" and in-turn
My car, Truck and Harley ALL shout EXPENSIVE! I will admit, I have NEVER tried to save $1 with my oil filter choice.

IMO Fram did itself a disservice now offering so many choices of oil filters.
Last I looked its like (9) lines of oil filters from Fram. It think its confusing for not only the average Joe but even some folks like myself that are on a oil forum!
One Fram may have metal end caps one not, one synthetic media, then one don't on and on.

I understand offering price points and longer or shorter OCI but when I stand at the parts store, Walmart. Amazon I see listed on the Fram box, 10K miles, 15K, 20 K whatever and its a crazy amount of choices! And then I think to myself what one was it that had the paper end caps and I continue down the isle as I scratch my head and buy a WIX...
