Anyone know or had experience on Torco oils? I used them with great satisfaction before turning to M1, too hard to find around my place

I have switched most of my personal and work vehicles over to Torco SR-1. I have used about every oil known to man and Torco has given my vehicles the most consistent MPG gains.

BTW since I do not want to violate board policy so I won't post the Torco link, why not order factory direct? They had a price increase and it is now $7.25 a qt, but shipping is only $6.95 for up to 10 qt's.

Also there is a dealer that sells on eBay. With shipping discount might be $8.50 a qt

A little more but worth a oil change or two to try it. The few extra bucks per OCI compared with the cost today of new vehicles and gasoline...not even worth a consideration IMO.

Those are deals! Local shop gets $18 a qt for it.

wow, interesting. this is actually the first time i have ever heard of Torco. so do alot of people use this oil? how does it compare to the big synthetic brands like Amsoil, RP, M1, etc.

too bad they don't have a 5w40 grade. thats what i use in my bimmer.

Although this may not be popular as each oil has its fans, in my opinion Torco fits into the group of other overpriced and underqualified oils - Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline. Amsoil however may be on the borderline of this group, as some get good prices on it, and some Amsoil oils may actually be qualified.

Some things to think about:

1. Is the oil qualified to API SM? ILSAC GF-4? and display the API "Sunburst" symbol?
2. What is the HTHS value of the oil? If it is much higher (or unknown and no Sunburst means suspicious) than 2.6 for 5w20 or 2.9 for 5w30, then the oil is likely costing you fuel mileage and HP, not saving you fuel and generating my HP.
3. Are you comfortable putting your car warranty at risk? assuming it still is in warranty.

The prices are not that much higher than other synthetic oils. As far as quality......you are entitled to your opinion

You're spewing that "It's not SM or GF-4 rated, so it must be sh!t oil" stuff here as well as on mazdaforums.com?? YIKES

Read some more about those "inferior" oils that don't meet some trivial government spec and you might learn something.

Torco is good stuff, been around for a while, I bought 15 cans of their two stroke oil about ten years ago when it was on closeout at the honda stealership, never had a problem with it.

Yeahh its good oil, they claim they use a friction reducer, MPZ something, I recall the benefits I had was fuel saving and a "smooth" sound from the engine, to bad hard to find in Greece, so I switched to M1, great oil as well!

When I told you on the Mazda3 board to come here and learn a few things, I had no idea you were going to litter this board like you do the Mazda board. The whole "intferior oil" addiction gets old real quick. Maybe just stay away from posting your opinions on how you view things like oil (and detailing). Facts only would be great.

Why doesnt this guy like amsoil, royal purple, redline and torco??

Has he had bad experience from the above brands?

I'm sure he's never used them, although neither have I. However, I don't go around calling out inferiority on products I've never used. He does a lot of "research" then when he posts, he spins the data to reflect his own personal opinion. Read some of his off-the-wall posts on here.

Rather than spending my time on getting down to nitty-gritty technical data on products, I prefer to use end results data (as in UOA's for oil) to figure out if something is good or not. An oil might have a great technical data sheet but if it doesn't perform, then it doesn't matter.

I do agree with what you say, personal experience is very acurate, I havnt tested all the above oils, but the one I did, torco was more then good stuff by my opinion

I know how my car runs and how my engine sounds, so I guess up till now torco and M1 are great

I have been using Torco SR-1 5w-20 in my Mazda3 2.3L for over 15,000 miles. Am I over paying for oil? Maybe. But the $10 extra I spend per OCI (when compared to "off the shelf" synthetics) isn't going to make or break me.

Mazda3 HatchBack Autos (5-speed) are known for getting "poor" mpg (19-25mpg). But I have gotten 28.5 mpg ever since I changed over to Torco at 1,000 miles. Is it totally because of the Torco oil? Heck, I don't know, but I do know that my engine runs great and I'm on the minority side of the great Mazda3 MPG debate.

So I'll keep ordering my "inferior" SL/GF-3 rated Torco straight from the factory, and I'll just drive by Del-Taco twice per month instead of stopping, and BAM, I'm now Even Steven.
wink.gif

BTW, I saw pics of a motor that had over 100,000 miles on it that used Torco SR-1 from new, and the motor looked like it was just assembled. If I can find/remember which web site I saw them on I'll post the link.

D Bone, where do you order your Torco from? I might be interested in running one interval of it just to compare it. Right now I have my first fill of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 and like it a lot. I just filled my tank (5-spd. manual) and registered 34mpg. Over the life of the car though, 30mpg is what we're averaging (I've tracked every tank). Getting 28.5mpg in the auto is pretty good knowing what we know about the mpg's on the autos.

Factory direct from Torco. Can't post the link (Torco racing Oils) due to the rules here, but look them up on the web. $7.25 qt plus $6.95 shipping up to 10 qts (.695 a qt shipping on 10 qts)

No bad experience at all, because I would never use them due to the price and that fact that nearly all of them do not meet the current standards for oil that my car requires. I don't gamble at Vegas either

, but many others do of course.
