I was unclear.
I was referring to when anyone encounters ANY new, unfamiliar connector you ask yourself, "What the heck kinda connector is it going to be this time? Is it a lift tab or push-in kinda tab".
I rewrote my post for clarity. I hope I succeeded.
Your situation was clearly stated.
I also liked the hair dryer idea. Nothing worse than breaking plastic during Winter car work.

Also, I've saved a slew of stainless steel ribs from old windshield wiper blades for this exact purpose. You gotta get under some of these things to lift up sometimes.

Why do they have SO MANY types of plug for heaven's sake?

Hey, we Rust Belt jacks speak the same language.

I thought the same thing and my thought is, the automaker has to "adapt" to the wiring connector that the module manufacturer decided to use. Even sensors or modules from the same manufacturer can vary based on the size of the part or the number of wires that are used/needed. This fan control module, for example, has (3) separate plugs. As I understand it, one is the "main" connector with just (3) wires, one is for fan # 1 (2 wires), and the other for fan # 2 (2 wires).
