One use tools that just sit around

One use tool collections annoy me. I have a pile of tools I used only once because I needed them for projects, and it was cheaper to do the job myself vs hire someone with the tools. I imagine there is a lot of that for the home DIY crowd around here. One tool I can think of is a nursert set that includes the tool and a bunch of nutserts I bought on Amazon for $50 or so. I needed to attach a steel door strike plate securely to a thin piece of sheet metal behind that was stripped out and sheet metal screws wouldn’t work. I have had it for years now and it takes up a good bit of space. I also bought a cable toner just recently to try and chase down some wiring in a warehouse and likely won’t ever use that again. But it cost me $60 and I know an electrician would have charged more. I want to get rid of some of the stuff, but I’m sure if I do then I’ll come across a need. I need a second tool chest just to store all this stuff.

When I turned wrenches I bought a press specifically designed to pop rotors off a mid-90s Honda Accord. The first time I used it at work the manager of the shop said that since it worked so fast he was taking hours off the bill. I just looked and said "never using this again."

GM 350 /200R rear tail shaft bushing remover / installer. Used once. So easy I felt guilty and it was my car. Still in drawer wrapped in rags.

I bought a Ryobi planer to skim about 3/8-inch off the bottom of the bathroom door. It worked perfectly..... But I haven't used it since.

I am sure someday I'll need it again, or a neighbor might need to borrow it. So I keep it.

Left hand drill bits....Moen extractor....locking extensions (although imho needed when needed so sockets don't fall out and lost)....100 tooth swivel head ratchet (used once attempting 02 sensors)

I figure my widow can sell them at the estate auction.

What I really hate is having to buy a tool twice because I can’t find the first one. I’m getting resigned to buying a new laser level because I can’t find my old one anywhere.

My tool collection is small, so the only things I have that I've never used are some deep impact sockets, that's about it. Come to think of it, I don't know why I even have those impact sockets; I don't own an impact wrench.

After doing a wheel bearing on the Sienna, I bought a tool whose sole purpose is to un-stake the axle nut (having garfed one up doing the bearing swap). Of course, I haven't had to do another bearing since.

Just remembered I have a thread clean out set that I bought for installing a Draw Tite hitch on our then 10 yo car, where the bottom was all orange (white car) and the mounting holes all rusty. I could have gotten away without the set, as I basically used the actual bolts with WD40 and worked them very slowly, back and forth. I did use the clean out tool but it didn't do much--I thought maybe I couldn't do the job without.
