Oiled and clean tools possible?

Hello. I have a tool shed in the carport laundromat as they built commonly in this area around the seventies. I have mostly Sears Craftsman and Hong Kong Freight tools. Sometimes I like my stuff crispy clean but don't want a clean yet rusted wrench.


What is a good chemical or towel to use on tools? So that they wont cause me to need a handwash just for picking one up, but won't be prone to rust either.


The area shares the attic with the 3/1 house and for some weird reason, some of the ceiling is knocked out and then there's the dryer vent so it probably gets its share of moisture.

"Crispy" clean? Surely you mean "squeaky" clean?

Call a shipping supply place in your area, and ask about Anti-Corrosion Wrapping Paper, also called Anti-Rust Paper, or VCI Anti-Corrosion Paper. You can line your drawers with this stuff, and make the pieces long enough that you can fold it on top of the tools before you close the drawer.

Motor oil and the red scuff pads work great. Wipe clean with rag or leave slightly wet if not used often. I also hit mine on the wire wheel very quickly.

For wrenches and things without moving parts, I think car wax would be as good as any. Hard to beat Eezox for rust protection on moving parts.

I've used a combination of WD-40 and paste wax on the bed of a table saw and table of a drill press with good results. It left the surfaces smooth and non-stick (without being slippery) and kept rust from forming.

CRC makes a product called Tool Guard. It's a little oily but not too bad.

I think a oil rag like gun guys use to wipe down blued steel finishes would work.

Thanks, the oily gun oil sounds great and the gun solvent might even fix rust.
