I need a fairly compact toolbox to fit in my carport storage room. Its a pretty small space that would normally house a washer and dryer but I'll go to the laundromat.

Anyway, was looking at ACE hardware and they had a $89 Craftsman which is not much less than what I need, but since they didn't have it on display I went to Sears and demoed their $129 dollar cabinet and it was miserable. So I figured I needed ball bearing rollers at the very least.

Is the Husky 10 drawer good? The pic looked good and is $179, but they had no demo.

i think this is it

Or a family member has had a red Craftsman chest for over 10 years and has been flawless. Sears sometimes has these for $299 but is more than I need, but that is rarely a problem is it?

Just need to know more about the Husky brand. I had a few socket sets from them back in the day and had to replace the 1/4" driver once, but was pleased with the set.

What budget cabinets do you recommend? Harbor Freight has a Us General for about $150 but I'm fairly afraid of it.

If I were looking to spend in the $299.00 range I would try to either budget for it or save up a little more and/or use a coopin for a better discount and buy this:

I really like that top box and bottom chest combo. I would buy one for myself if I didn't already have a good Craftsman top chest and cabinet combo that I bought some years ago before I even knew HF existed. The HF boxes seem to be built very well and even if a setup like that is too much box for you now, you may wind up keeping it a long time and can always add to it as you go.

I like this tool cart too, maybe it would work for you in the space you have available and it costs less:

Some of what HF sells is junk, but I like some of their tool boxes and chest/cabinet combos. I think a lot of their tool boxes are just as good as Husky or Craftsman. If you use one of their 20% or 25% off coopins it's an even better deal. Some HF store managers will even allow the 20/25% off coopins on sale priced items too. HF never has given me any grief when I use their coopins.

A tool box can never be to big! Craftsman makes a good box, and I'm sure husky does too. Personally I stay away from Harbor Freight stuff. I would stick with the Craftsman brand with ball bearing slides and make sure you get drawer liners.

If a tool box becomes too big, it can become unwieldy. I like to move mine around to the place I'm directly working at.

Over at the garage journal forum, most are saying that Craftsman quality is down and the Harbor Freight boxes are getting a LOT of positive attention.

At work I only have a bottom unit for auto tools only....no plumbing, electrical, wood tools. I can move it easily to my work area and use the top as a mini workbench to set stuff on.

I was at HF today and took a good look at this 8 drawer top and bottom chest combo again:

It is a good solid tool box, it seems to be just a sturdy and well built as the similar Mac top and bottom combo I bought way back in the 80's. It has ball bearing drawers too. HF has a coopin in the monthly sales flyer that I get in the mail, for June that box combo is only $299.00 with the coopin. This is the one I would buy if I needed a new smaller tool box combo.

Looks like a great deal to me.

I picked up the lower 4 drawer piece last weekend and will get the top 6 drawer when I get the money.

The other cabinet I posted:http://www.craftsman.com/shc/s/p_10155_12602_009C0636000B?vName=Storage+%26+Garage&cName=Tool+Storage&sName=Chest+%26+Cabinet+Combos&prdNo=6&blockNo=6&blockType=L6

This box was pretty flimsy and had sharp metal that wasn't reinforced like the more expensive ones. It looks great at first glance but once you compare to the one I picked up it just seems it wont hold up for years.

Thought these boxes were maintenance free.

It says every year to wax it, grease the slides and casters.
