"Tight Engines" need 0W-20 he claims

I can't believe people still cling to this nonsense

Some people can't be taught or refuse to learn. Either way you can talk til you're blue in the face so don't waste your time.

Owners manual for my 1969 GMC 1500 with 396cuin lists no less than 5 different oil viscosities depending on ambient temps. 5W-20 is listed.

I cant imagine running a 5W-20 year round in a 396. I just stick with 10w-30

A 30wt is the way to go if you are doing a lot of highway driving. You will burn oil using a 20wt doing highway driving. I don't have time to keep checking oil . So I use 5w30 in my 13malibu 2.5 ecotec DI . Which calls for a 5w20. No change in MPG at all and no oil burning

Three cars here: two with 5w/20, one with 0w/20. Lots of highway driving, no oil consumption by any of them. Have you tried 5w/20 in your Malibu post break-in?

Exactly. 0/20 or 5/30 it doesnt matter, if you want a more "robust" oil, choose the 5/30.

If you are the very small part of the population that winter time temps get not much above 0 degrees F, maybe 0/20 wouldnt hurt but it still will not be much better.

I suppose you've never driven a Lexus or one of the last model year Town Cars.

Yeah, all the biology majors I know went to work for oil companies.

OK, I'll make a serious response to what is essentially a trolling post, one that you constantly make trying to link noise to wear - for which there is zero evidence.

I use M1 0W-20 in my ECHO and M1 5W-20 in my old Sienna, the double bonus for noise in your playbook. The reason I use it is less noise, especially on startup. It makes a noticeable difference, both engines have less noise especially in winter.

I run it in both of my vehicles and I can't notice a difference in the noise. I'm starting to believe that synthetics have become so well formulated that it doesn't really matter what viscosity you run. But we have had some cold winters recently here in Maryland so I keep the thinner stuff in my car year-round because it arbitrarily makes me happy and should the temperature ever drop to -4,029 degrees Fahrenheit, I'll be set.

Trolling is right.

I use 0-20 for the quite starts, quite engine performance at running temps, very clean engines, obvious very good wear control, and little to no oil consumption. All at 10K OCIs.

No and mine is known for "hemi tick"

You end up buying about 1% more gasoline running the 30. Its there, you just don't notice it. Simple, more viscosity means more drag friction.

I had a 74 olds v8 and ran straight 20wt in summer and straight 10wt in winter with no problem. sold the car with 132000 miles

I run 0w20 in my 06 300C and I just turned 100000 miles.
