Three 0w-16 choices I am considering next.

Chances of me starting to do my own oil changes are slim to none. I am an old crippled up fat man. My Toyota dealer here charges me $35.00 labor, and I furnish my own oil and filters. I am not that concerned about the cost, within reason. They check things over, do the air pressures and all that, granted, on a brand-new car what's to check. LOL! The simplest would be just drive it in there and let them furnish everything. But I actually enjoy this stuff. They have actually been pretty good to me through the years.
That's understandable. $35 is less than what Jiffy Lube charges for labor lol. They are giving you a great deal. I would show up there every 3 months with my oil and filter lol. Don't let them eventually get you with cabin filters, engine tune-ups and all 😆

I look at this from the perspective of a hobby. I'm going to "waste my money" doing something, so why not sending in many samples for VOAs, looking for the baby-bear version of oil... just right. In reality, most any oil would be "good enough" if changed regularly, but where's the fun in that? Besides, what works best for me will be very different in the same vehicle in a different part of the country being driven by someone else.

That is an amazing additive pack! WOW!
Don't fall for all the additives. There is a reason it needs all that. Pennzoil gets the job done with way less because of their superior GTL base. Don't get me wrong, I have a big stash of TGMO but I know it is nothing special.

if you want quieter running oil I found 0w-16 Valvoline, PUP and Royal Purple is noticeably quieter..Mobil 1 was clattery in my 2024 Subaru. Currently have Penzoil Ultra platinum in it and its also quieter. There is nothing special about mobil 1 is what I found out.

Exactly! This looks like a VOA of a HPL oil, not some cheap, OEM, no-named garbage.
That Moly in TGMO is a different flavor that has to be used in large quanties. Mobil 1 and Pennzoil use a more modern and more potent version of Moly. Pennzoil doesn't need that much Calcium either because of GTL base. Quacker State has lots of Moly too but that doesn't make it better than Pennzoil Platinum. Quacker State's VOA looks better than Pennzoil Platinum's lol

I’ve always gone Valvoline or TGMO at my local dealer. They let me bring in a container to fill at bulk price.

I’m considering NAPA branded 0w16 next time just to feel something 😂

My pick out of those would be Valvoline. I had a close friend asking me lately why I always talk Valvoline when doing my oil and transmission service. Honestly, at some point I had a valid reason for why, but after much reading my brain has been fried on BITOG 😂. Now, I just like their logo, cash back, and bottle 😂😂😂😂.

Edit: before this turns into an obligatory thick vs thin debate or masterclass on oil selection by some - UOAs and VOAs don’t tell the entire story of an oil. Pick an oil that meets your OEM specifications outlined in your user manual, change it early, and use a good filter.

ESP 0w20 is for some Euro diesels. I don't think I would want a diesel oil in my Japanese hybrid, but that's just me.
You're being funny right? You really think that it's bad to put a "diesel oil" like esp x2 in a gas engine. Even though Volkswagen uses it in all of their newer turbo gdi gas engines?

Not to mention the Corvette and Porsche race teams that use ESP 0w40. The whole ESP lineup has some of the most stringent gas engine approvals and specs out there.

I didn't realize these oils were for both gas and diesel. I just looked at the PDS for their 0w-30. It's rated at 12.0 cSt @ 100*`. Pretty impressive when you consider that most of the 5w-30's out there are in the 10's.

List of oils I’ve used on 2 different A25A engines without issues or noticeable difference.

Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 0W16
Valvoline Advanced 0W16
Pennzoil Platinum 0W16
Mobil1 AFE 0W16
Pennzoil Platinum 0W20
Castrol Edge 0W20
Valvoline R & P 0W20

Just keep an eye out for fuel dilution and change the oil at appropriate intervals.

In LSJr's video, Viscosity Breakdown: The Silent Engine Killer Revealed!, starting at time stamp 16:20-ish, he talks about the testing they did at HPL's lab and the thousands of Mobil 1s' samples he's analyzed, all break down one grade due to HTHS after having been run. Watch the whole video to see the actual testing prior to his presenting the results.

Do you feel it's more important to attack someone who's offering a point of view that other's can take or leave, but at least decide for themselves instead of being told they're wrong?
