Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

I have a 93 Honda Accord EX with 235,000 miles. It still runs great and I love it. Have the fun is keeping it in good working order for as little money as possible. (Repairs myself, although almost no problems. The R-12 AC makes it challenging) I have used Dino oil with changes every 3500 to 4000 miles. It uses one quart of oil between changes. After recently discovering this board, I am tempted to do an AutoRx treatment. Maybe it will see 300K!

Please ignore previous message; things got fowled up. There were 303 respondants. The first number is the number of respondants and the second is the percentage of total respondants. Here we go again:
Type of Oil Used:
Mobil 1 - 33; 10.9%
Amsoil - 6; 2%
Other synthetics (using only one brand for the life of the car) - 3; 1.3%
Castrol dino - 20; 6.6%
Pennzoil dino - 19; 6.3%
Quaker State dino - 2; .7%
Mobil dino - 9; 3%
Valvoline dino - 9; 3%
Valvoline synthetic blend - 1; .3%
Other synthetic blend - 4; 1.3%
Various dinos (using more than one brand of dino over the life of the car) - 138; 45.5%
Various synthetics (using more than one brand of synthetic, but no dino, over the life of the car) - 7; 2.3%
Various dinos and synthetics - 44; 14.5%
Havoline dino - 4; 1.3%
Chevron dino - 3; 1%

I found it most striking that, if you add all those who used various brands of oil, both dino and sythetic, the total comes to 62.3% of all the respondants. Only 37.7% of respondants claimed to have used only one brand of oil for the life of the car.

Here's another interesting stat:
63% of repondants reported switching viscosities of the life of the car. 37% only used one viscosity for the life of the car.

Here are the stats for OCI:
Less than every 3000 miles - 2; .7%
Between 3000 and 4999 miles - 141; 46.5%
Between 5000 and 6999 miles - 48; 15.8%
Between 7000 and 9999 miles - 21; 6.9%
Over 10000 miles - 23; 7.6%
The remainder never stated an OCI

OCIs for the respondants who claimed to use only one brand of synthetic for the life of the car (43 total):
Between 3000 and 4999 miles - 6; 14%
Between 5000 and 6999 miles - 10; 23%
Between 7000 and 9999 miles - 6; 14%
10000 miles or over - 12; 28%
Unknown - 9; 21%

Average mileage of cars: 210,200 miles.

There's more to come. My spread sheet program just crashed.

I have a 1996 Ford F-150 since new a two wheel drive model. Has a 302 V-8 and a E40D Transmission. Never had to go inside of motor for anything, valve cover gaskets leak for past two years, and never changed them. Miles on truck 331,526 miles as of today. Selling to family member who needs another truck for the farm. Trans was replaced at 212,000 miles. Only one kind of oil and filter was ever used on this truck since new. Motorcraft 15w40 and Motorcraft FL-1A filters. All other maintenance items were always kept up on yearly basis. I want a new truck so going to look at new Chevy with 6.0 gas motor, while this GM sale is going on. Looked at new Fords but Ford got rid of the old pushrod motors, so going with a Chevy.

I have a 1986 Toyota pickup 4x4 with 22R engine. It has 220K. My wifes uncle bought it new kept for the first 100K miles says he made regular oil changes but didn't know how often or what oil. Wifes sister bought it and kept till i bought at 206K. Sister-in-law just drove it hard, oil got changed when ever. Truck still runs good. I'm using Rotella 15w40

1993 Honda Accord EX with 235,000 miles.

I have used dino oil with OCI of 3500 to 4000 miles. It now needs about 1 quart of oil added between changes. The oil brand has varied with whatever oil change place I go to, but prefer Pennzoil.
It still runs great! I love this car, and enjoy the challenge of keeping it in top shape for as little $$ as possible. (quite challenging for an old R-12 AC system)

After recently discovering this site, I am thinking of doing an autoRx treatment. Would love to see 300K on this (seems like I am always raising the mileage bar. First 200K, then 250K, 300K would be party time!)

1989 Ford F-150 with 470,000 miles with the original Engine. I-6. The oil was changed every 2,000 with vaovoline dino 10w40 and a fram (Orange Can) oil filter.

Ive got a know a guy from work that has i forgot what susuki sameri that has 800K original miles on her and is still running. Dino oil i know was used what kind i dont know.

1992 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado
213,960 and counting 5.0 305.
My grandfather bought it brand new and my father bought it from him and know I have it. Grandfather/ Dad used an assortment of dino's every 3k for the first 150,000 and I've used M1 with KN filter every 3k since i've had it. doesnt leak or use a drop of oil between OCI's. Get 17-18 MPG to boot

My '01 Accord LX 4 banger is now at 152K+ miles. No problems with the engine, but the original autotrans failed at ~112K (6th Genititus) with frequent drain/refills of Z1.

This was the first year Honda spec'd 5w20 for the Accord and I used Pennz 5w20 for the first couple changes and then switched to M1 5w30 for the next 100K. Since then, I'm back to using the Pennz 5w20 at about 4K intervals. I'll probably stay with this OCI until I hand it off to one of my children. Hope to keep it in the family til 300K+, but still worry about the OEM replacement tranny. So far, so good, but...

I replaced the OEM NGK double plats at 102K and they still looked good and the gap was perfect at that time. I put NGK coppers in at that time and have had to put a second set in recently. Still on the original distributor cap and rotor, wires and alternator. The car still jumps to life and runs and idles fine, but I'm probably going to replace the cap and rotor soon just because.

1999 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 straight six engine.
Dino first 5000 miles
Mobil 1 10w30 to 215,000 with OCI 3 to 5k
Amsoil 10w30 to 245,000 miles with OCI 10 to 15k
Doesn't seem to burn any oil, no engine work ever done.

1995 BMW 525iT with 175K miles. Various dino oils throughout its life so far, but will be switching to Mobil 1 with the next change. Sent it to the mechanic for cylinder head work at 156K miles. Bottom end should be good until 250K-300K miles.

1990 BMW 325is with 178K miles. Also various dino oils but going through an AutoRx cycle. Will likely use Valvoline MaxLife Syn afterwards. No major engine work to speak of, but I'm thinking about doing some cylinder head work this next year.

When I was in Grad School, someplace on the Gulf Coast, the Domino's Pizza delivery boy had a Suzuki Samurai that he drove back to Long Island, New York every Month. I recall that that little truck had 500,000 miles on it. He said he never had any problems with it, but "it is starting to smoke a bit."

My isuzu rodeo has 181,180 miles on it now...

I bought it about 18 months ago with ~144,000 on it..

I have no idea what was used in it previously, or the oil change interval.

Since I have owned it, I have experimented with a veriety of weights and brands.

5w50 QS synthetic
10w30 QS syn blend(i think)
Penzoil 10w30 dino
Valvoline can't remember weight dino
GTX 10w30 and 10w40
delo 400
delvac 1300
supertech 5w30, 20w50, and 10w30 synthetic
GC 0w30
and probably a few others I can't remember

Not to mention, addatives/flushes I've tried out..
engine restore
gunk
golden eagle flush
rislone
STP
seafoam
VSOT
and again, probably more I can't recall at this time...

And now, finally... something usefull (as a result of bitog).. arx.

oil changes were between 2000 and 3500 miles, (most under 3000) since i bought it.

The engine still runs very strong.. can't complain... Even with the oil consumption that has always plagued this thing, i'm sure it will last 250+k...

I had a 1988 accord LXI... that I bought with 174,000 on it- drove it till 220,000 and traded it in on the isuzu... My oil changes on that thing, were less ideal- between 4000-6000 miles usually... and always on the cheapest stuff I could find, (exon superflo, and supertech primarily).

1995 Cutlass Supreme Convertible, 3.1 V6. Diet of MaxLife (10W-30, 10W-40) and M1 0W-40. 150000 miles. Doesn't burn or leak enough to show on the dipstick between changes. Just survived a nice 2400 miles highway trip with power to spare.

92 Nissan Sentra SE-R with about 185,000 on it now. Some leaks which seem to be common for this engine have developed.

Since my first oil change, I used Syntec 5W-50 for some reason (didn't know squat about oil) along with WIX filters. Switched to M1 5W-30 about 2 years ago and use either WIX or NAPA gold (same thing). Engine is one of the best 4 clyendar engines IMHO!

I just hit 150k miles on my '96 Acura Integra GS-R a month or so ago. My OCI has always been about 3750 miles using 5W-30 conventional oil. Brands that I've used: Castrol GTX, Quaker State, Mobil Drive Clean, Havoline and Chevron Supreme.

I have yet to have any oil related problems (burning, leaking, etc).

1994 GMC Sonoma 4.3L vortec
189,950 miles
No oil burning yet (knock on wood)
OCI 3000-6000
I've only used Mobil 1, Chevron supreme, and Amsoil. 5W-30 for all.
And I've gone through 4 fuel pumps. I can't figure out what from becuase I change the fuel filter every 6k miles and almost never go under 1/4 tank of gas.
