Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

1995 Mitsubishi Montero 3.0L V6. 149.7k mi (almost 150k) OCI ave 7500mi (thats what the manual said, I never believed in the jiffy lube 3k OCI hype). OCI's varied between 6k and 11k. Castrol Syntec 10/30 or 5/50(sometimes they only had 5/50). Fram filters. (what am I doing on this board anyway). Quiet lifters. 1qt per 5k miles oil usage. At 100k miles I got cheap and started using dino oil. Kept the OCI's to 7500k. Just found BITOG a couple weeks ago. Cant wait to do my first oil analysis.

That's 270K miles in about 24 months.

So he's doing an oil change each month on this vehicle if he's doing them at 10-12K mile intervals.

He's probably spending 1/4 of his life in his car.

1999 Subaru Legacy Outback, Phase 1 EJ25, Auto Tranny, closing in on 180k miles. Bought new in May of '99.

First 70k or so were 3k-4k changes with Pennzoil 5w-30 and Fram filters. Then I used 5w-30 Mobil 1 with Fram Filters at 3k-4k intervals until around 120k when the head gaskets went. After I put the engine back together I ran Amsoil ASL and ATM at 7500 mile intervals for a year or so. It got a nice 10k taste of GC this winter, running AFL for 10k or so now. I have been using Amsoil SDF-20 filters.

Let me add that when I pulled the engine apart after 50k of Mobil 1, the internals were as shiny as they day it was made. I had never seen an engine so clean at that mileage.

I have taken several used cars from 100k-120k to 200k miles, all with Pennzoil and Fram. I need to quit driving so much!

I enjoyed this thread so much that I started a similar one for A/T's in the Transmission section.
It seems easier to get 200k trouble-free from a motor than from an automatic transmission. I would like some of you with high mileage to post about your A/T maintenance in that thread. Thanks

The car before it was a 1971 Mercury Tracer LTS (that's the one with the high performance Mazda DOHC engine).

Don't you mean a 1991 Tracer? I had one,...great engine. Tranny sucked though. It went out at only 75k miles. Other than that I really liked that car.

Last car i had was '88 Linc. Town Car.Had 200k when i sold it.Used 10w30 and 10w40.Mostly Motorcraft but sometimes Castrol went in it every 3k sometimes less.Used any filter but mostly Motercraft. All dino oil.

No major engines issus ever.Plus when i sold it everything worked including the a/c.

1982 Chevrolet Silverado V8 with 225,000 miles...OCI's every 3,000 miles with whatever was on sale, usually castrol GTX 10W40 and fram filters...Had some electrical work done on it and just a few days later it developed an electrical fire in the steering column, right where we had the work done and totalled the car....At 225,000 the motor was still quiet, smooth revving, no strange noises, good power just like it was when it was new.

Had a Mazda B2000, first owned by my uncle, then my sister, then my dad, then me...My sister ran that truck with the petal to the metal...The little truck ran 250,000 miles with OCI's at 3 to 4,000 miles with whatever was on sale...

Update--

Mazda now at 200,003 miles, original 13B rotary engine, no smoke or abnormal consumption at all! Royal Purple 15w-40 at 5K OCI.

Wife's Saturn DOHC is at 153,289 using 1qt per 800 miles and fouling plugs, standard Saturn oil control issues. Royal Purple 10w-30 at 10K OCI (picked up ~4.5mpg)

"New" Pontial Fiero GT V6 2.8L has 215,499 on it and shows lots of sludge up top from running too cool, working on that. HDEO 30wt at 500 mile OCI's until the sludge is under control :-)

Wife's 1995 Honda Civic VX (High mileage edition) 195,000 mi. 3K oil changes at the dealer with whatever they put in it. Burns/leaks nothing, still gets just under 50 mpg on the 1.5L four. Just recently replaced the entire AC system for $1800 as it was completely worn out (Texas) and there wasn't any reason to want to get rid of the car otherwise. The only problem I've ever had with this car is it has a lot of road noise.

new guy on the board.
1992 camry 4 Cyl, 5 speed, 2.2l. Father in law bought new. I bought it at 221,000 kms. regular 5000km oil changes at dealer with Bulk oil done religiously. 1st change was done early at 1000kms(600 miles). I took over at 221Kms and drove it till 542,000kms last year . The car is tight, quiet and burns very little oil.Body has held up beautifully through 13 canadian winters(body gets oiled every 2 years) I put it on Mobil 1 10-30 from 221kms to 540kms. gave it to a friend in desperate need and he drives it every day. has 556kms on it now(340,000 miles). Amazing car. I ran an additive called Power Up for it's last 300,000kms. Might of helped. Who knows. Original everything, A/C compressor, power windows, alternator, steering rack, etc. Did the suspension once. T- belts and lots of fluid changes were done over and over. Crank seal, Cam seal and oil pump seals were all leaking and replaced at 500,000 kms. CP

'79 Scottsdale Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, 350 had over 300K miles everything original, used 10w-40 Havoline for life.

Still running strong when traded in.

'78 Datsun 4-cylinder pick-up 265K+ when sold to a family friend, same oil.

'85 Toyota, 22RE 199K before original headgasket blew, taking engine with it. This truck had been a hard working truck, though, doing things that most V6's would have a hard time doing.

1995 isuzu rodeo, 3.2L V6 (the notorious "clicking enguine," you've probably heard one somewhere)

bought last summer with 144k on it already, 172k now.

before my ownership- oil changes- who knows.

In the last 28k since i bought, OCI: 2-3.5k.

random oils, some regulars, some synthetics, varying brands, varying weights(somewhat seasonally dependant).

has the notorious click for this enguine, and burns about a quart/1k (plus or minus depending on oil chosen), which is also very normal for this enguine.

It has a tow hitch installed, a very high rated one, (like 8,000lbs rated if i recall(not sure what "class").. way overkill for this type of vehicle.. I have to assume whoever owned it before me used it to pull something heavy.

In the 28k I have driven it- I have used it primarily to delivery pizzas. (major intown abuse, start stop start stop start stop, lots of heavy throttle, excessive idling and about 20-30 "ignitions" per day). Drove it from colorado to northern wisconsin when i bought it. (almost 2500 mile round trip, AC 80% of time). It has also been 4-wheeling several times (4low lugging along, low speeds, with AC crankin)

had an incident at about 155k, when the seal penzoil brand filter i bought actually BROKE, and leaked most of the oil out of the enguine while I was driving. heard valve noise, noticed fluctuating oil pressure and pulled over asap. looked under and watched the last of the oil drain out. This experience probably aged this enguine a LOT. haveing perfect 20-20 hinesight- I should have kept the busted filter/seal, and sent pictures to penzoil, maybe they could reimburse me the cost of a enguine rebuild, lol.. enguine has ticked louder ever since, but keeps going with no noticable lack of power.

recently dropped in a K&N air filter, and actually beat a stock honda prelude in a uphill drag race.- not bad for an old clicking, 170+k old, 4500+lb, SUV.

We'll a fellow with a 93 allante hit 439k but recently his car was hit by a drunk driver, hes workin on a new one(well, new by his standards)

My Dad's 98 4.3L Blazer now has 180K. For the 1st 120K or so it had nothing but Pennzoil 5w-30 and Fram filters every 3K from his favorite garage. From then on it's had 3K changes with mostly Havoline/Chevron 5w-30 winter, 10w-30 summer with Purolators under my watch. Motor was opened last summer for the intake gasket and nothing but bright shiny metal. It definetally is down on power from new but still runs pretty good. The most amazing thing is the emmisions test shows practically nothing. Every time I take it to Jiffy Lube for Emmisions they say it's the cleanest burning engine they see. It also always gets over 20 mpg, upwards of 25/25 on flatland highway driving. It does have a nasty knock sometimes on cold winter starts; was actually doing it during the summer sometimes but now it's kind of subsided.

My 78 Dodge Little Red Express had 208K miles when my son was racing an Hunda Vtec and ran it over 6800 RPM for at least a mile and spun a rod bearing. I rebuilt it using a used crank, 1 new rod, rod and main bearings and new rings. Everyother part was reused as is. I am the second owner. The first had the Dodge dealer do all services till 155K mi when I bought it. I used Delo 400 15W40 and Wix/NAPA/Carquest filters. It now has about 250k Miles Total but is leaking at the rear main

My wifes 98 Buick Century 3.1 was a fleet use car that stayed on the freeway at 65+ MPH (Seattle to Omaha NB) till 126K miles when we bought it from the local Buick dealer, whom was the servicer. It now has 158K mi and uses 1/2 qt on a 7000 mile OCI using Castrol GTX 5W30 and a NAPA gold filter. I did try going till the "Change Oil" light said to dump it but I chickened out at about 10K miles when the oil looked like expresso but was still as thin as new stuff. DaveJ

Mine may sounds like nothing compare to these hi milage, but anyhow:

97 Acura Integra RS Automatic, 160k miles, only replaced radiator, thermostat, O2 sensor, AC condensor pipe (accident), and did one brake job, otherwise original everything.

Purchased new and the first 72k miles get 6k M1 oil change (5w30). A UOA and review from this board get me started on a 8-9k oil change. Recently push the envelop to 12k oil change and wear is still very very low (according to the UOA).

What I found out later in smog and spark plug reading is that the engine is running lean most of the time with a retarded timing. Maybe this is why my M1 is always thicken instead of thinned as most suggested here. Now I am going to top off with 1/4 quart of 5w20 every 5k miles and extend the OCI to 15k miles (on non-EP M1).

Wish me luck.

I have a 1993 Ford F-150 extended cab, 302 V8, automatic. Had it since new and has 409,165 miles on the original engine. Only thing replaced is A/C, Starter and Alternator(just replaced them last year with about 395,000 miles). Transmission rebuilt three times. We used regular Havoline 10W-40 with MotorCraft FL-1A filters for the first 150,00 to 200,000 miles then swithched to regular Castrol 10W-40 with FL-1A. There also has been several(10-20)times that there was different oil and filters used because being out of town and definately needed an oil change. We tried to change every 3,000 but not every time. The trucks odometer goes to 399,999 and then flips right back to 300,000. I had my camera ready for the 400,000 and was dissapointed when it said 300,000. The last 15,000 miles we have a bad oil pan leak and we have not fixed and won't. just saving money to replace the motor. It is a work truck and has been very very good to us. No additives for anything just regular maintenance on the entire engine. Or it is just because it is A FORD!!!!!!!
