Those that have contacts inside U.S. automakers?

No, we didn't do any Mitsu work only Mercedes, BMW, GM, Ford, Mazda, Nissan, and Honda in large volume. That's all I'll say on the subject.

We only shipped parts to mainly North America.

So whether you buy a Japanese brand, German, or USA even if the assembly is in Mexico or Canada, a lot of components are still made in the USA. And may come from the same plant with the same workers.

Where I worked we made the same assembly for Ford, GM, Honda, Mazda, and Nissan. It just they all have different specs. Making everything to spec. and meeting customer requirements defines quality. All were quality parts because they met customer requirement. A quality $60 part is different than a quality $20 part i.e. different steel, crimped maybe instead of welded, # of welds, different less complex design, etc., etc.

My dad and I took a big "risk" in 2001 to buy a used Taurus of the same year (Hertz), at 13.5k instead of a new camry at say, 19k. To us we think that no matter how unreliable it is the extra 5.5k should be enough to take care of the maintanence.

After 4 years of driving I have to say I am confident about Ford's recent quality, not the best but fair in the Price performance ratio.

True about the quality between different OEM issue, it seems like most of the problem is in design of the vehicle overall, that the OEM is not putting design life in serious consideration or they push the design limit too much. I have seen American made aftermarket parts for my Acura that are better quality than my Acura OEM, at only 1/3 the price.

I am the retired CFO of a metal stamping company. We were invited to bid on a hugh volume of automotive business. We decided "thanks but no thanks".

Has anyone ever seen one of those QS or ISO, or whatever this weeks buzzword is, quality flags hanging infront of a big three HQ building?

But not on the HQ building in Auburn. I wonder why that is?

because manufacturing plants can be certified separately.

and because the HQ doesn't build anything.

Haley, there's no need to be coy about naming Nissan. It's no secret that Carlos Ghosn is ruthless. But when you're answering only to the bottom line, why is it any surprise that big car makers turn into Wal-Mart, in every sense?
