So I've been tossing the idea of going back to using MC semi syn 5w20 or the Pennzoil "gold" synblend in both fords. What say the BITOG faithful? By both fords I mean the 03' Taurus and my 11' Focus. Mostly highway miles and very little short trip or city driving

Well versus the Smittys super s oil and I know in all reality that a good "synblend" can go longer than just 7,500 miles; sorry but going 5-7k miles is a waste

If you want longer OCIs why not just step up to Ultra or Platinum for peace of mind? I agree the blend should last plenty long if the cars aren't being abused especially when paired with a good filter. Which, by the way, what kind of filter do you plan on using?

True! Have you considered just going with say Ultra or Platinum and a Fram Ultra filter and pushing the OCIs higher than 10k miles. I know it would cost more up front, but you'd be stretching your dollar too. If not then I think a tough guard with the gold oil should do just fine for what you're asking assuming you don't take these cars offroad or drive like you're in the INDY 500.

If memory serves I believe it has been posted here that Pennzoil Gold is 50% synthetic and thus is the better buy between the two oils even moreso with MC being more expensive. Based upon your driving style, I am pretty confident it can go 9-10K (MS5K which is a conventional made 10K in my old FX4 with some cushion). One UOA would tell you for sure.

Thought of that, except that PU is rare as hen's teeth in my area ;(. I always liked the PP as seems from reading it's a cleansing oil. Could get some $4 out the door price MC 0w20 synblend too!

2015PSD: very true sir

If i had no qualms running PGold or MCrft up to 10K, i wouldn't with Napa Synthetic either.

In the 11 focus i would use QSUD 5w20 if the price is right in the taurus the same. Motorcraft oil is expensive these days although the Motorcraft when i was using it during the first 40,000 miles kept my 4.6 super clean. When the price went up i stopped using it. The QSUD does not seem to keep the engine as clean. I see this in two of my engines.

Donnyj08: I don't have access to tropartic ;(. The MC 0w20 synblend is intriguing though. Crazyoildude: it seems the QSUD is spotty to find at walmarts near me. There is occasionally some enhanced durability though but it's more than "gold" Pennzoil

In our recent private discussions, you found out that the Motorcraft semi-syn.....comes in a 0w20.

How come its not on your list. I might be wrong on this....but I read that 0wXX oils have better base oils than 5w or 10w oils.....thus providing slightly longer OCI. Not sure if thats true.

I believe from reading back a long jaunt that CATERHAM informed us that it's in reality nothing too special. Haven't ever saw a modern era, 2015 VOA though. Dunno
