Exactly. I think the good old 30 weight is likely the ideal viscosity for most engines....just pick a good one.

I have some knowledge of the issues and I can tell you that the lubricant one can be solved by using a 0w-40 or 5w-40 A3/B3 Porsche Approved synthetic. The oil's Brand matters very little if any at all and there are a number that have Porsche's Approval (not "meets" or "recommended") readily available.
The other alternative is to use a 5w-40 "mixed fleet" synthetic HDEO - these will do the job splendidly

used oil analysis are unlikely to be conclusive as to best oil Brand against engine model but they will tell you about the oil's condition if used intelligently and assist you in setting your OCI

Thank you Mr Hillary..As I said I am unfamiliar with the intricacies of engine oil and want to do good by my engine..I assumed that everyone did used oil analysis to find the best oil for their application,now I get asked what I am going to look at to see if my engine likes one better or not,so now I am just totally confused...Can I tell by uoa that one oil is better than the other????

There are folks who feel that a used oil analysis will tell you the condition of the oil and that wear metals reported in a used oil analysis may or may not be an indicator of wear in the engine. The problem is that there is little if any direct evidence (proof) that wear metals in a used oil analysis indicate real wear in the engine. However, it very likely that lower wear metals in your oil is better than high wear metals. Not a bad way to bet.

Some data suggests there is no difference in engine wear between brands of oil.

Want a good bet? Choose a quality conventional or synthetic oil in a viscosity approved by your car maker and change it at reasonable intervals. Use a quality oil filter (Mobil 1, Wix, NAPA, Purolator, etc) and change it with your oil. This way your engine will only run 300,000 without oil related problems.

Pennzoil will warrant an engine for 250,000 miles with 4,000 mile OCIs with their oil and reasonable engine maintenance. Mobil 1 warrants 15,000 mile OCIs with their new oil. Pretty safe bets for long term use.

I am gonna start trending through used oil analysis and I am confident that the Mobil 1 0w40 should be good fit.When I change out the RP 5w30 I am gonna run Mobil 1 0w40 a couple of times at about 5-6k and see how things go..
