The Quickest Cars of 2007: $25,000 to $30,000.

It's like they went out of their way to make a list that didn't include the WRX. Why? Does my car allowance have a minimum of $25k? Whatever.
Still, refreshing to read little-disguised displeasure with the big GM front-drivers.

In the Subaru Forester XT "review" they state:
The Forester's powertrain is essentially the same as the one found in the WRX, a car that would have just snuck on to the bottom of this list based on its performance. But, since the WRX starts under $25K, we'll save it for a cheaper quickest-cars list.

AndyH, I know what they stated, but if they had made the list "Quickest cars under $30k," they could have avoided the appearance of manipulating their selected price range specifically to exclude the WRX. My point is that there shouldn't be a *minimum* spending limit when picking a car (or any product). I sense some discomfort from C&D having to admit that a lot of Subarus are fast AND cheap.

Ahh, list manipulation. It seems to me that most lists are.
Take them with a BIG grain of salt.
Better yet, line the bird cage with them...

maybe. but it's not that fun when there is trooper with laser gun behind bushes. i got ticket that way. when your car is overpowered it's harder to control in every way. I got 115 hp car wit AT and can go as fast as 110mph - enough to land me in jail for reckless driving. so what difference would it make to have a car wiht twice the power if you can't go faster anyway(speed limits)? yet it would be more expensive and will have higher mpg.

Well, heck, we'll all just have to buy Vespas then!
Sorry, I am not ready to give up the fun for the possibility of a ticket.
I learned how to drive/ride correctly, so I can handle the machines...

i didn't say vespas but 180hp is more than enough for most cars. i got slow car yet have no problem going fast, passing everybody else with their powerfull cars. what's the point of the having powerfull cars with V6 or even V8 if they go so slow? waste of gas!

back in the day cars were much slower than now yet they were called muscle cars. and speed limits hasn't changed much ever since. nowdays cars getting bigger and stronger but who really needs 400hp V8 with 55 limits when you can exceed them with four banger just as easy ???

oilnoob - Nobody NEEDS a 400hp car. But some of us like them. If you were passing 400hp cars with your 115hp car, they didn't realize they were in a race. Have you ever gone 0-60 in 5 seconds, or 1/4 mile in 12? By the way, don't judge me by the cars in my sig. I'm 34, and have owned a few cars that would run 12s.

why should i do that? or why should i go to a grocery store or a mall in all terrain hummer? it's just simply exccesive and completely unnecessary. besides most people who got such cars never go fast or do 1/4 runs. that's why it's not a problem to pass them in my 115hp. why own 400hp car if you don't use it. just cause your #@$%! too small or "you like them"???

p.s. i expect "it's there if I ever need it" argument. well you prolly won't know how to use it anyway, cause you're just another slowpoke with too much money, who bought his car just to show off and brag on how fast it is without acually going fast it's only and solely pourpose. most fast cars owners go way too slow. again - waste off money.

My wife's mommy mobile made #4, her manual tranny Subaru Legacy GT in wagon form. I did not realize 0-60 was 5.3 secs. It a pleasure to drive.

We got it for invoice-rebate at $24k no negotiation.

By the same token, you could also argue that having a 60" TV is unnecessary when a 19" would do. Living in a 4000 sq ft home is unnecessary when you could fit in a 600 sq ft apartment. Eating caviar is unnecessary when bread and butter would fill your stomach just as well. You get the point.

Sure, it's not necessary, but we all like certain things. Some of us like powerful cars. It's not just about cruising at a high speed - any car can do that. It's about the thrill of stepping on the accelerator and feel your body pushed into the seat back, even if it's just between 10 and 50 mph, or the ability to quickly merge into traffic. Some people enjoy driving, and that extra power adds to that enjoyment. It has nothing to do with necessity.

yeah but a lo of people don't do that kind of driving you described. so what do they need so much power for then?

i enjoy driving too, but never caught myself thinkig that i really need 400hp to enjoy it even more. most powerfull car i drove was 170hp altima and i think it was more than plenty powerfull car. i can't even imagine how driving 400hp car would be like. slightest pedal touch would prolly bring it to 80mph in a second. what to do with all that power then?

it seems that according to most people logic future car will have 2000-4000hp. and everybody will be cool with it. mkayy...

Having the biggest, mostest or fastest (i.e. ego) sells vehicles in America. Very little of what sells well in America is needed...and that includes a 4x4 in-n-out burger

What is REALLY amazing is how far the "quick" part of the performance equation has come: in the mid-to-late '60's any car that could go 0-60 in under 6 seconds was blindingly fast!

That's hardly an accomplishment, today. Better handling, better brakes, better emisions, better gas mileage, safer, etc. We all just take it for granted.
