SUCKS! Does anyone else simply despise what Google has done to Youtube recently? I can take the new channel layouts, but the new video layout is clearly a way to keep the big time partners, let in more non-user generated content/corporate stuff (like Hulu), and squeeze out the little guys and change Youtube from a social gathering site to a pure video posting site by thugs like Fred.

Because Youtube has been a money loser for Google ever since they acquired it. They're transitioning it to be a more corporate oriented video posting site so they can make it profitable. It really never has been able to turn a profit based on partner status/google adsense. They should just leave it the way it was and allow more corporate sponsoring/advertising in addition to adsense.

Yes, they seemed to have added even more fluff and the video loads slower.

I was just telling my friend about the layout changes. I don't understand how HULU is so much faster with buffering. Youtube needs to get their videos to work faster/load faster/whatever.

Big +1 - and this isn't one of those layout changes that is inconvenient just because stuff got switched around. You get used to that. This new layout makes everything more complicated. It's needless. It's just done to make the website look more 'modern'.

As far as the buffering goes, it seems to have improved somewhat, but it's nothing like what it used to be.

just like Facebook - they keep changing it every 2 weeks, and I can't even keep up with what they change - it worked fine the way it was, and I can't think of any (+) aspects of any layout/format changes they did - other than requiring MORE clicks to perform the same action..
NOT keeping what works seems to be the fashion these days..change for the sake of change.

Quite right. It's a sign of stagnation. Somebody needs to shake up webdesign. Web 3.0 time.

For a while Google made it very easy to download MP4 videos from YouTube that will play in Quicktime or Windows Media Player 12. But then they made it hard again. A lot of people who post videos on YouTube WANT for people to download their videos. Otherwise they would protect the video. A good example is VPrincess.

I now rarely even check YouTube out. I think there will eventually be other video sites on the internet to replace YouTube. There are already some.

any examples, mystic?
Thanks.

I have visited a few websites where there are videos but I did not write down the names of those websites. I should have. They typically do not have anywhere near as many videos as YouTube. But as YouTube probably sinks into the sunset as Google makes YouTube harder to use and more uncomfortable there will be new websites with videos.

Yeah, I don't care for the new YouTube, either. Especially since they removed the ability to open in a separate window; I often have Flash problems for some reason unless I can do so.
