I currently own a second Gen Tacoma. If I was looking now it would be hard to pass on the frontier. The drive train has been solid and the truck looks great. Definitely wouldn’t be looking at another Tacoma.
I lived in the Denver area for three years. No rust because it is so dry despite using a ton of mag chloride in winter. Tacomas are known to have frame rot/ rust. Happened to my coworker on his 3 year old Tacoma.
Toyota seems to have lost its quality a while ago. If I had the means, I think I'd bet on the Nissan over a Tacoma for once. Although the frontier has always been a good basic truck. Just severely outdated nowadays, until now.

Was it from the era of improperly made by Dana Corp frames. Toyota won a 25 million judgement against Dana Corp because of that, and they replaced a lot of frames, or bought back trucks.
