Im new to pickup trucks

Hi, im looking for something new. Been driving sedans for years and own a suv for my family ( ecoobost explorer). But for my self I will like a pickup truck with a V6 engine. Can't afford the gas on a v8. It will be my daily driver to work and when its needed in the future when I need to pickup something heavy and dont ask my friends if I can borrow their pickup truck etc... I live in Arizona and I will like to go mount lemon one day. 4x4 or 2x4?

My options are used vehicles from the dealers with low milage and minimum 6 years old trucks.
Nissan frontier
Ram warlock 1500 or the classic original both with v6
Tacoma v6. Hard to find a good deal.
Chevy colorado with v6 no turbo.

Out of all of them I really like the looks of the warlock. But its a full size truck with v6. Wonder how is the mpg on that one.
Different strokes. You don't need a low mpg truck for commuting. You need......wait for it........a sedan like you been driving. You gotta Explorer for towing. .02.

Wild-card option. Just rent a truck when you need one sporadically, since it will be cheaper than truck ownership. If you are MPG sensitive, you can stick to efficient and more cost effective vehicles.

Just researched more about the HEMI tick. It can be many things and it will be stressful not knowing if its something serious or not. I guess for Ram it's V6. And for V8 Ill go with the titan and the Ford that was recommended.
Uh....burrito?

The Pentastar has plenty of ticking problems of its own. You're just robbing Peter to pay Paul here.

'07-21 are solid in the Tundra. I do prefer the '14+ update, but it's mostly lipstick and gloss
Ok I guess Ill go with Tundra or Tacoma.
And my 3rd option will be an f150 with the transmission recommended in the forum.

I totally get wanting a truck. They don’t ride as well but they are handy. I had an older tundra, a newer f150, and while we stopped towing, the bed is too handy and now have a Tacoma.

Agree, v6 is great and either the ford or Ram with v6 would be a pleasure to own. Personal opinion avoid the ford 10 speed, my experience there wasnt great. Unless I needed the power, the 3.5L NA would be fine.

I like the Tacoma. Fun truck. Gets better gas mileage. More fun to drive, gets in and out of traffic better, and I really don’t need a full-size truck wrapped around me on my commute.

Wheelbase counts if you will be towing. IMO it counts more than engine size. If towing over 4500 lbs or on long interstate trips, get a full-size for the longer wheelbase.

RWD costs when it comes to mpg. Full time 4wd costs as well. Any kind of lift or larger tire eats mpg. Removing or shaving the air **** costs mpg. If you like to mod your truck, and you like mpg, you will be frustrated. The Honda and maverick have some advantages here. I think H/K has a FWD truck on the market too which looks pretty snazzy and tests well.

OP, you are comfortable financially speaking right? Just seems a warning flag to me hearing someone say they want to buy a truck, but say they can’t afford the gas of a V8. If you’re so sensitive that a V6 and V8 MPG difference makes or breaks your financial comfort level, I would suggest recalculating your decision.

If you are all good, Tundra is out of the game. They are reliable, but get abysmal MPG. Tacoma also is not so good MPGs. Reliable, but for some reason they are fuel thirsty.

I would consider a Frontier. They are old tech, cheaper, and can tow well. My coworker bought a new one. He’s loving it.
