The new Nissan Frontier.

The suspension, frame, rear differential are exactly the same as the 05-20 Frontier from what I'm seeing in offroad groups online.

I do have concerns about that one LONG timing chain combined with DI. And I'm not the biggest fan of the timing chain water pump. But the VQ40 never had prolems.

How has the 3.8 / 8 speed been working out?

I like the looks of the new Tacoma Frontier! I mean, they are trying to perfect the “form,” right? So it makes sense that they are dialing in similar dimensions. The flat front looks a little like it’s been punched in the face, or like a k9 boxer, but it’s pretty tame all things today.

doing light work on our own vehicles, we had a 97 pathfinder, back when it was basically a frontier drivetrain in a unibody wagon. I could never quite figure out their design philosophy when working on it - it was like the different design departments didn’t share the same language, or communicate, but the vehicle as a whole was well built and had a good truck heritage in its dna. For that reason I have respect for the frontiers, but just couldn’t get with the newer interiors, at all. If they get rid of the weird pegleg steering wheel, it’s going in the right direction!

I have a 2021 Frontier which is the old body style and the new motor and transmission. I bought it because used prices were so crazy. I got a 2021 S King Cab 4x4, basically a fleet truck with 4x4. BTW the rule of 8 anyone? this is the rule of 6 a v6, six lug, 6 foot bed and 6000lbs gvw. I'm not sure how different the 22's will be, my guess is mechanically not much. Got a great price from the fleet department of my local dealer and as of three months ago they has 129 in stock! 3200 miles and counting but I do have some insights so here it goes. POWER!!! this thing is rated at 310 HP and boy it really rips, my first DI motor btw so im a little weirded out about that, but it goes like stink and the motor is built in the USA. 9 speed transmission, apparently German design, but built in Japan and mine has been flawless, supposedly the same transmission in the Titan. I get 20mpg on the road and 16 around town and thats because its a truck! Fully boxed frame so it drives like a truck, kinda jittery. The turning radius is HELLISH I might not keep this truck because the turning radius is so lousy its a real defect and should have been corrected a long time ago. I live in AZ so the AC is top priority and it works great, weirdly when you let off the throttle it kicks up the fan speed, kinda opposite of the old way, but no complaints it goes from on fire sitting in 115 degrees to pleasant inside of 4 minutes. It is an S the lowest grade they have but seems well appointed, Im coming from a 21 year old Tacoma soooo. Comfort is good too, compared to the old Tacoma its great. I went on one road trip to California to see family and ended up hauling back 1000 pounds of shop equipment, it all fit under my bargain Tonopro cover and I could feels the weight a bit over bumps and stuff but motor transmission wise and MPG wise it was like it wasn't even there. Ive ordered a Ford Maverick which is supposed to be delivered by the end of the year and this Frontier will probably need a new home then, at the current rate of inflation it will be worth twice what I paid for it. KBB already says its work 30% more, go figure!

my 2011 SV 4X4 king cab + 6spd manual is a great truck for me + early models were the best dollar value! it will take years + miles to know if anything newer is OK or NOT + yes turning radius stinks!!

Why get rid of a pretty good truck?
Or do you just like a change every couple years?

I had to buy something, and used was too expensive, so I bought the new Frontier three months ago, I wanted a Honda Ridgeline but the price and the mileage suck. Then I saw the Maverick and it looks just about right with great mileage, should be about 37mpg real world, and a great price starting at $20k, I ordered one under $25k. with a $1k refundable deposit. The way prices are I dont see how I can go wrong. And if gas goes crazy like everything else then 37 mpg sure looks better than 18.

The 05-20 Frontier is just a shrunken first generation Titan. The frame has been narrowed and shortened, same transmission, same rear differential. People will actually titan swap front differentials and suspensions into the Frontiers since they're very interchangeable.

The AC fan thing is a result of Nissan's smart alternator system. Our 19 sentra does it. When you're decelerating, the alternator kicks back on

Will they offer a bed larger than 5’?
Probably not on the crew cab. Ford doesn't offer a "long" bed on the crew cab ranger and they sell every single Ranger they make in crew cab minibed.

Plus, at the price of the midsize long bed crew cab, you can get into a similar sized 1500/150 style truck for a similar price.

As much as I believe the Frontier, at least up to the 2020 model year is the best Nissan vehicle you can get, time will tell on the newest ones.

I know my local Nissan dealer would typically only stock 2-3 of them at best because of slow sales and they stocked zero Titans because of the same.

I don't agree with the comment above about no legroom in the rear seating area. The crew cabs are quite roomy. Obviously everyone's fit is going to vary, but I'm 6ft and have plenty of room in the back of my FIL's 2017 crew cab long bed. Leg room comes into play in the front for those over 6ft. My 2019 Ram 1500 classic crew cab, short bed can make tighter turns than my FILs Frontier and my Hemi gets better MPGs for day/day driving.

I test drove all of the mid-sized trucks in crew cab trims(except the ranger as it was not out yet). The Colorado was the only one that could reasonably fit a car seat and not suck for the people in the front. The frontier was extremely uncomfortable.

If you are single or a couple with no younger kids, it could work for sure. Front facing car seats might be ok.

I don't doubt your experience but this was for sure a Frontier crew cab and not the king cab? It's been awhile since I've been in the multiple car seat game in one vehicle, but I'm having a hard time visualizing how even a large rear facing car seat would be an issue in the back of a crew cab. Like said above, I'm 6ft and can ride with comfort in the back seat of a frontier crew cab.

Yes I specifically looked for crew cab long beds, which were very tough to find. All my rentals have been CC short beds.
