THE "GOOD" FRAM

I didn't know how BAD Fram really was until I found this website 3 years ago.

I figured if John Force runs Fram in his funny car, it must be high quality

I even saw a Fram filter on his car when I went to an NHRA race a few years back.

Now, I just buy Purolator or its clones (Proline & Total Grip) for a whopping $1.99

I would say there is a big difference between the FRAM used on his funny car and the fact that they tear the motor down every run and the frams we see...

..that said I would be surprised to hear he uses fram on his car...

O well I HAVE to keep my trucks running, he can just buy a new one....

That is off of an Extra Guard, NOT AN EXTENDED GUARD.

The Extended guard X2 doesn't use Nitrile, it uses silcone.

Again, I am not saying Fram is an angel, but this is one great high capacity filter.

You would believe how much crap it held during the Auto-RX cycle. Would have definitely thrown the other filters into bypass.

MADMIKE,

Do your research and you will see that it has been tested and is a really good filter.

Don't listen to people that bash a good filter because of the name. I hate Fram but I still recognize a good filter when I see and USE ONE.

Thanks BlazerLT--I applaud your fairness! It's a common tendency to want to throw the baby out with the bathwater and make unfair and inaccurate generalizations!

Pictures, and all the information you will need to compare filters.

Sure the X2 is expensive, but it is made to last 7000 miles and has the capacity to do so.

You can't directly compare it to other standard filters.

Read my experience with it being used when doing an Auto-RX cleaning.
 
I have run Fram's for over 40 years with NO problems, Dodge Van 360 V8 368,000 miles on original engine, NO PROBELMS, Audi 5000, 328,000 FRAM filter, NO problems, Honda Civic 282,000 Fram filter NO Problems. I have been on this site for a while now and do use other filters now that I know there are better ones out there but never have I had a Fram fail me in all these years. Those that bad mouth them I would probably bet have never had a problem either!!!!!!!!!

That means the XG has a different ADBV than the other Fram filters. It is not the SAME.

That is kind-of like saying; All Mondavi wine is the same, some just has different grapes in it.
 
Hold on, this is not going to go into a Fram fight thread, we are talking about the Extended guard.

No one cares if you have used Fram on your trucks for years, the tough guard, Extra guard are garbage and there is no denying it.

So don't turn this thread into some sort of defense that any Fram other than a Extended Guard is good because that is not true.

PLUS, a fram 20-30-40 years ago is not the same as they are now so don't think Fram is the same filter as it was then.

Fram filters suck/rule; that's all there is to it. I always/never use them on all/none of my vehicles. They have never/always given me problems. I would highly/never recommend them to everybody/nobody. You guys should start/stop using these things on everything you own.

How about this. It really does not matter what kind of filter you use. You can get 200k on a car without a filter. So, anecdotes about getting 200k with a Fram are meaningless.

Let's see someone prove me wrong on that one!

Fram has been caught passing off inferior merchandise under a fine old name. I never expect to buy any Fram product. I don't deal with liars.
 
Again, last time I will post in this thread. The material is different, but the design is the same. The material doesn't make it cave in and allow the oil to bypass the design does. You can dance around the facts all you want, but it doesn't change anything. I spread NO misinformation, I posted the fact that the material was different in my post. If anyone is spreading misinformation it is you.

I don't know why you choose to attack everyone that disagrees with you, but the fact that it is allowed here disgusts me.

No it's like saying a silicone square wheel is the same as a nitrile square wheel. The material doesn't change the fact that it doesn't work. Read my post, I never claimed they were the same, only the same design.

I really have a problem with any member digging at another member. Just state facts and move on. So with that in mind, I have instituted a new program. If I see any more name calling, harassment or other member to member inappropriate actions, the offender will become a ROM. (Read Only Member) Thanks for your co-operation. And don't comment on this, the thread is now back on topic.

Since that silicone is softer & more pliable than nitrile, it seems plausible that even though all Fram ADBV's are the same design, the silicone version should be less prone to de-formation & leaking.

What are you thoughts on this?
