I prefer to cook at home and make it my way. Never too impressed by their food but I do not like to see businesses fail either. It's difficult to find good help in the restaurant business and turnover is quite high which doesn't work. Red Lobster was usually pretty good but what seafood isn't when you fry it in butter and garlic with lots of salt.

I feel for these restaurants but it's inevitable. Inflation rises prices and food quality goes down. They need to keep prices inline with what people think reasonable price for food is at these types of restaurants.

Buca Di Beppo is another restaurant chain that’s almost out of business and serve microwave quality food.

Imagine Stouffer’s frozen Italian TV dinners in a restaurant setting. 🍝

I like Applebees on a date night
Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake
Get some whipped cream on the top, too
Two straws, one check, girl, I got you

They peaked long ago...always amazed when restaurant chains, or any other business, seem to simply sit back and watch the consumer market shift around them. The food was mediocre at its best but not priced accordingly and their offerings fell behind other chains. Made a great basis for Chotchkie's in the movie Office Space though, so TGIF will always have that as their legacy!

Not surprised…though there are a few elephants in the room people forgot:

-people are becoming much less social- can blame the climate i guess. When i do go out to eat, it’s mostly older folks and people who have a few bucks. Guessing hiding your life behind a phone doesn’t give many younger folks a reason to go out….

-when grub hub can being your meal to you (alcohol included) from Applebees to your home in your PJs, means less folks will go out on any given night anyways……

Simple math -- most things with inflation went up to 60% in some cases over the last 4 plus years. If your not making 80 grand in your household these days --- your not eating out that often anymore. TGI and most of there competitors are in "survival mode" these days. I pray for things to turn around.

I’m praying too.

Judging by the Wall Street numbers they still need to beat this year, I’d say not much of a chance….

Economy is slowing and people are curbing their spending, no doubt consumers spending less at restaurants and simply cooking a good meal at home.

Lots of mom & pop restaurants also struggling with increased overhead, higher wages, inflation, customer ordering lower priced items.

I agree with Dave87rs that lots of people no longer want to go to restaurant when UberEats or Grub Hub can deliver directly from a restaurant.

I have to admit I absolutely hate eating in a restaurant whether it’s a big corporate chain or a mom & pop place.
UberEats have delivered a mom & pop BBQ restaurant food to my house about 40 times.
I will not eat at this restaurant (even 50% off)…… only delivery food for me.

Where am I going to get my sizzling fajitas now?

Just kidding, I haven't been there in 10 years.
