..or is Reddit a confusing mess of rules that vary from topic to topic about how answer must be constructed or what " flair" you need in this or that place like its some kind TGI fridays?

If you "explain it like Im 5" and your answer is too short its removed - if its too long its removed, too many removals for this or that reason and you get banned.

If you swim upstream you get banned, if you swim downstream you get banned.

It's a bummer because it often has interesting threads where you get good information, but actually participating is a chore.

Like most things social media which emulates real life its a popularity contest. You will get upvotes for being a clever troll, or downvotes for telling the hard truth. It is what it is.

Yup, millions of 'subreddits' on millions of topics.

Each group is unique, and there's always a few posters who like to stir BS. Put them down with truth and knowledge, and they slink off.

You'll quickly learn if there are any useful posters. If not, move along.

Cameras, cars, flashlights, F1, computer building, computer overclocking, fishing are a few that I read, and sometimes post to.

Search there first, for *any* question you might have: "my question" site:reddit.com

Yes, the fishing one is funny. Q: What color of lure to use for some specific scenario - A: 45 individual responses recommending every color of the rainbow, and adamant all other colors will never work. :ROFLMAO: . At least people are good natured in that subreddit.

You can make a very true statement on any given topic. If the rest of the group "cant handle the truth" your post gets down voted and moved to the bottom of oblivion in the thread. Reddit is very flawed place on the Internet.

You try to educate them. There are many lurkers who can learn from you.

If your ego needs up votes, social media isn't a place you should go to...

Sounds so familiar

Reread my post. You can make a factual statement and get down voted. That moves your comment down to the bottom of the thread. Therefore it will not be seen. Upvotes do the opposite . That's how Reddit works.

The sort can be changed.

And since -when-, can people not scroll to the bottom of a thread?

I did reddit for a couple years but gave up and deleted my account about six months back. It just got to be too toxic and I found myself being as toxic as the rest of them.
