TGI Fridays files for bankruptcy

We just finished eating at the Texas Roadhouse in Lawrence, KS. They cut their steaks fresh every day. The yeast rolls with honey butter are a signature items that is baked fresh during the course of the day. Today, the baker remained behind, so they were absolutely fresh.

Salads are all fresh made daily. Baked and sweet potatoes are all cooked on site. Other side dishes may not be made on site, I just don't know.

I had their prime rib and wife had a mushroom chicken dish. They were OK, but I have had better at other Texas Roadhouses in the past.

YUP they are a great place to eat...

Yes, they built a new one here. First in WA I believe. Isn't it just frozen reheated food? Not really fresh, I believe?

No one goes there because it's too crowded.
Naw, they even display the meat and you can pick the slab you want. I end up at a Texas Road house a couple of times every year. Not my choice but sometimes the group decides. If you have a hankering for a 5,000 kcal meal it's not bad, I suppose. I usually get a steak, a baked potato, and a salad. The clientele and employees are largely very hefty which is not that common a sight in California. I did like the unlimited peanuts but now they give you a small bag. Sad. And if the staff is told it's your birthday they make you wear a 10-gallon hat and ride a wooden pony while singing Happy Birthday to you. One of my idiot friends said it was my birthday which wasn't even true. I was forced to threaten physical harm to people to avoid this fate. Yeehaw!

Simple math -- most things with inflation went up to 60% in some cases over the last 4 plus years. If your not making 80 grand in your household these days --- your not eating out that often anymore. TGI and most of there competitors are in "survival mode" these days. I pray for things to turn around.

This ^^^^^^^

The lady and I went out last evening to a very good high end restaurant called Waypoint near us. $160 tip included at 30 percent…

Food was excellent and service was very good. I had the flounder stuffed with crabcake and I suggested the lady try the crab-cake dinner. And that was awesome… I stole 3 bites of it.

We only eat out once a month now. And I really don’t cook seafood at home.

Why go out when I can make these routinely..

For way, way, way less money than going to a restaurant.

Yes changing your own oil and cooking your own food is cheaper....

There steaks are hand cut....I dont think much of there food is pre frozen....also the reason they are crowded is there food is very good...Your line that no one goes there because its too crowded...does not make sense to me....They are crowded because people like it and go back again to eat...
Also the rolls and honey butter

Another Texas Roadhouse fan here. I don't eat there often but if I'm going to eat a steak in a commercial setting and I have a say in where we eat, I prefer it to to other chain steakhouses and 'casual places' like TGiF, Applebees or Chilis. I always get the same thing so nothing is heated up in a microwave. Ribeye, baked potato, salad. I even ate TR at least once every week when I traveled for work and could have picked any more 'upscale' steakhouse anywhere on the company dime. 16oz ribeye meant I had enough for my meal and my midnight snack in the hotel room.

Last time in a TGiF was 8-10 years ago. Last time I was in one, bunch of people from work wanted to hit one up for a couple of drinks and snacks. I think the appeal to GenX (my workgroup was a solid dozen or so GenXrs - as am I) up until the last decade was that it reminded them of their youth (the ads on TV lol). As many in this thread have mentioned, it never left 1989.....

A whole, whole, whole lot cheaper.

The restaurants have a whole lot of understandable overhead and tax burdens too.

They have to attempt to make real profit above operating costs.

Which I understand that.

Texas Roadhouse. They do not reheat frozen food as far as I know. I always get a steak, baked potato, and salad. None of that is reheated. All fresh and all good. Plus the yeast rolls!
