What worries me is the false stuff. As a data analyst, you assume that a portion of the data is flat out wrong, either by fat-fingering the key or otherwise.

In statistics, we throw out the outliers, for this very reason. And that's the easy part.

The insurance companies should have told people and let them decide to enroll for discount instead of jacking up rate in secret. This way people would be discouraged of dangerous driving habits instead of feeling cheated. If I am a good driver, I would like to get a discount and not subsidize for my alcoholic neighbor.

My two GM vehicles are off the grid, '79 Caddy and '92 Chevy, with no info to be accessed. Not sure what's being gathered from my '19 4Runner, but I'm sure I signed away my soul with the mountain of paperwork signed at purchase. Maybe next time I buy a vehicle, I'll whip out an NDA for the dealership to sign.

It depends on which model 4Runner you have. The '19 Limited has the 'SOS' button which is monitored continuously. 2020 and newer, all models have it. Then there's the question of whether you have a cellphone paired to it. Of course all OBD2 vehicles have an EDR.

If I'm riding or driving spiritedly Ie: not in our 4Runner, the cellphone is turned off, and in it's aluminum lined sealed bag to safely protect it...

Does that mean since I don’t pay for WiFi on OnStar - or the total GARBAGE I pay for, upgrade, and get from Jeep or Lexus - that they are +++ - my new Navigation and OnStar are different than the mom’s basement membership say here …

In other countries if a good or service is required by government mandate, said good or service is felt to be apart of and a responsibility of the government .

What's funny is how horrible GM's mobile app is. The MyChevy app SUCKS. And even basic features like remote start and checking charging status are NOT free. While Ford gives away their FordPass app for FREE like they should.

You'd think with all the money they make selling data from my OnStar connected vehicle that they could make a mobile app that doesn't suck and make it free. I understand the entire concept of "if you aren't paying, you are the product" and I am OK with that. What I am not OK with is paying $15/month for a service that barely works AND they're selling all my data to whoever they want. THAT pisses me off.

But we're talking about data sets from individual owners and the insurance companies have every incentive to use the outliers in order to hike the premiums.

I see your point; insurance companies are in the business of risk management. My point was more about bad data; it skews analysis.

I enjoy my sports cars. Very much so. My all aluminum Jaguar F-Type, with it's mods, is well North of 400HP, and I use all of it. The 380mm (15 inch) rotors with metallic pads stop the car amazingly well, and I use them fully and properly also. The 19 x 10 inch wide wheels and 305mm rubber grips fairly well, and the car will register about 1G in cornering forces when driven smoothly. I hope to get a touch more cornering with upcoming Michelin tires.

I'm glad it has no live or cached data upload capability. As I don't want some form of On-Star lady calling me when I am on the track or knowing what I do in my free time.

Nobody is making you use an app to drive your vehicle.
