Test Drove a 2014 Mazda 6 with manual trans today.

I test drove the new Mazda 6 and the new CX-5 with the 2.5 engine/auto transmissions in them several weeks back. Both vehicles are fantastic.

The shifting in the 6 is a bit quicker and firmer than in the CX-5.
Both vehicles have handling that is directly related to that of my RX-8, but the 8 is still a notch above both.

The interior of the 6 is a very small notch above the already fantastic CX-5 interior.
The seat in the 6 hugs you much better than in the CX-5. Wish I could get the CX-5 with them.

There are so many different incentives out there for Mazda owners to buy a new Mazda.
$1k if you buy a Mazda 6. $500 if you buy any other Mazda. An additional $500 if you buy a Mazda 3 or a Miata. Many more $$$ if you buy a Miata due to Dealer cash incentives. $200 more if you finance through Mazda Finance (Chase).

If you look up Edmunds, you can get a good feel on all the rebates and incentives out there.

I'm replacing the RX-8 with a CX-5 Touring in Soul Red as soon as it arrives.
I'm hoping that it arrives sometime after next Wednesday, due to the Denver Auto show being open, and Mazda usually offers more money off, either $300 (2012) or $500 (2011).

I can wait if they're having the same crankcase fuel dilution issues as they are in Australia.

It's an interesting issue that is plaguing virtually all DPF-equipped diesels with post-injection regen cycles especially in short trips.

I wonder if it has to do with extended seating period of piston rings. A combination of factors can combine to delay the seating of rings in a diesel engine, from light consumer use, to the lubricating properties of diesel oil itself causing a retardation of proper ring seating. A 'virginal' hone also holds fuel (and oil) better. That correlates to initial oil consumption on new engines as well. I 'm personally led to believe this because most of the complaints of diesel fuel dilution are on low-mileage engines that see short, gentle trips, while others who run the autobahn hard and bury the pedal are not experiencing the issue, at all. /digress

I was inspecting the 30k Mazda 6 in the showroom too, not much differences aside from the seats. The only con I might say is I wasn't thrilled about the seats. The cloth in my VW seems like it will hold up better over time.

The dealer offers free scheduled synthetic oil changes for the lifetime of you have the car too! Not bad if they are filling this puppy up with Mazda 0w-20 every 6 months for free!

It's a fantastic car: the difference in the GT from Sport is not just the seats; it adds quite a bit of equipment.
To me the best/smartest choice is Touring with tech package:

you can see all specs of different Trims here: (PDF) -it has several pages:

Mazda offers Touring (mid level trim) also with 6 MT for the 2014 Mazda 6
I confirmed this with the sales guy (who looked it up) when I test drove one.

Shot an email to a Mazda dealership where I know someone there. They offered $17.5 for my car (more than I owe) and a price of $19,450 for the Mazda 6. lol, is this car worth it? That seems stupid cheap for such a car.

No, they don't.
You can't get a manual transmission in a Mazda 6 on any trim level other than Sport.
Unless, of course, you live in Canada, where its available on all 3 trim levels, Sport, GS, and GT.

Mazda USA screws over its customers once again by limiting choices.
At least we can get the GT CX-5 in FWD or AWD, they only get it in AWD.
Take that, you caknuckle-heads!

If that's true, their US website (Build a Vehicle) surely doesn't reflect it. But the spec sheet does:

Yep - going by the spec sheet, and according to the dealership info, MT is available with Touring Trim.

But what's wrong with the Tiguan? Or what's better about the 6?

I'm going to start calling you Nick_R.

The problem with the Tiguan is that its not a shiny new Mazda 6.
Is there really any other reason?

Well at least you've bought mostly American made Chevies and Fords, except for the one Mazda
