Teslas have highest accident rates per 1000 drivers highest of any auto brand.

Tesla's around here like to pull out right in front of semi trucks and use their superior acceleration to not get crushed. That might explain some of why they have high accident rates.
Around here they're coming close to BMW for their drivers doing stupid/deadly high speed maneuvers, earning them the obligatory bird flip. They have a few years to go in my estimation to gain the title, there still isn't enough of them on the road to take it, yet. ;)

I wonder if a lot of it is the drivers though? I haven't read the article yet but have noticed many "aggressive" Tesla drivers in PHX.
The last few accidents I've seen involving a Tesla has to have been due to autopilot error. A month ago a Tesla model 3 with new temporary plates from the dealership on it hit a vehicle in a left turn lane at a 45 degree angle. Looks like it missed the turn into the parking lot. I'd bet Money that they were using fsd or autopilot.

I'd like to see this broken out for how many of the incidents are driver fault or Autopilot fault (Yes, I know that's still ultimately the driver's fault). It's probably a safe bet that most of these are Autopilot related.

The fundamental flaw is the unrestricted use of Autopilot. They've been selling this as let the car do all the driving when we are no where near ready for this kind of feature technologically.

Around here stupid drivers drive all kinds of cars. I think we need double the number of CHP.

I'd like to know how many cars were using driver assist vs those who claim the car was using driver assist.

I agree with the article that auto pilot should be limited to freeways, with no cross traffic or oncoming traffic.
I'm sure there's tons of accidents where autopilot sails into a situation were an aware human would have been slowing for or covering the brakes, and then using their big brain to predict what's going to happen and planning or starting maneuvers to avoid an accident.

No surprises there to be honest! Some of the worst drivers around here in the UK due mostly to their "Superiority" mindset. They are constantly in the wrong lanes at junctions etc and just rely on their ability to out accelerate other cars.

🤣 for those who think they will save money on gas, think about how much more you are going to spend on insurance, even ignoring the cost of the vehicle compared to gas.
That's for another thread-make sure you dig up the (dead) horse and get your whip to beat it again.

Is the problem the drivers or the algorithm ...
I doubt it's the algorithm when you see them chasing cars weaving in and out at high speeds. If I had to bet, the algo is responsible for less accidents than the jackasses making high speed maneuvers chasing one another.
