Next week my wife and I and a 10 year old (boy) relative will be going to Elk country in northern Pennsylvania. We went a few years ago and enjoyed it. There is a wonderful, fairly new visitor center there which the boy will like, as will we. While in that area we are planning to hike a roughly four mile trail called the 'Fred Woods Trail'. The trail has great reviews but I'm concerned about rattle snakes this time of year. One of the reviewers of the trail said it would be best to go in the spring or fall because of the snakes in summer. Now, I'm not a fan of any sort of snake let alone rattlers. So I'm asking for any advice about those snakes. Do they want to avoid humans as much as we want to avoid them? Or are they aggressive, looking for a fight? I have never seen one in the wild and hope that we don't. But it sounds like a possibility. Any advice on how to deal with them if we run across one? Obviously we will avoid if at all possible.
Thanks.
Thanks.
