Techron, Top Tier, Oil Changes

What worked in the good old days is still working for me today with my " finicky high pressure fuel pumps " . . I've never experienced this " buildup " that some of you obsess over . Techron at two for $12.00 is just for insurance .
Or you could just buy fuel at Chevron and it contains Techron in it

Chevron is my favorite Top Tier gas brand. I learned that in the 90's when I was measuring gas mileage and with Chevron Vs Shell I was getting 1-2 miles per gallon better with Chevron. Switched after 10 years of only using Shell. This pre-dates Top Tier so now there are many brands to choose from that should perform well. Philips is my preferred Brand where I'm at because they claim to be above the minimum "Top Tier" compliance level of additives.

In the absence of Chevron gasoline will adding Techron Complete Concentrate at 10% of recommended treatment rate essentially duplicate what Chevron gasoline has?
I'm sure at some concentration you could replicate it. If you are doing it on every refill, then a few oz may be the answer. Alternatively, you could do a full bottle every so many fill ups. Like ever 1500 miles or so. From what I have read the carbon buildup does happen pretty fast if you aren't using Top Tier gas. And it is easier to prevent than to remove. So maybe a combination of a little on every refill and a full bottle every oil change interval.

It would be cheaper for you to just use TT gas all the time instead of paying extra for Techron. And this way you would always have a better cleaning fuel in there. I only use TT fuel in both of my cars and never bother with any fuel additives.
$0.15+ Per gal is not cheaper than 2 bottles of techron a year

There are lots of areas where you can get TT gas for the same cost or less than non top tier stations. I buy all of the gas for my Civic at Costco and it’s always the lowest price in town and it’s TT.
And personally I would rather be using the cleanest gas possible all of the time so that my engine doesn’t get dirty, as opposed to letting it get dirty with low quality fuel and then having to use something to clean up that mess later.

I’ve always added a bottle of Regane or Techron before long road trips. Like cruising all day at ~70 mph. Since none of my cars are DI a nice steady stream of valve wash seems ideal. Not sure I follow the thinking of how around-town driving is better for the cleaning action.
