I get where you're coming from. We dealt with what I consider to be poor dealerships and even poorer response from corporate with a 2007 minivan we bought brand new. I won't name the brand because it's not all that relevant at this point, but it wasn't GM. The van suffered numerous A/C compressor replacements, a powertrain harness replacement (due to a defective battery), at least one alternator replacement (might have been two), two serpentine belt tensioner replacements, over a half dozen stabilizer bar bushing replacements, etc. Most of this was under warranty, but I started doing the stabilizer bar bushings myself, because the job was cheap enough and I'd rather do it than have to deal with the dealerships. The last straw really was a leaking A/C condensate system which left the carpeting and jute under it soaked and all the dealership would do is seal the drain. I was left to take the van home and remove the front bucket seats myself and pull the carpet back and thoroughly dry it out so mold and mildew didn't form.
Why did all of this happen on an otherwise mostly reliable vehicle? I don't know. Probably never will. All of what I consider to be "trinkets" on the van worked just fine. The heated and power seats, the navigation system, the rear seat video system, etc. All of the power stuff you might expect to break didn't. It was the fundamentals like engine bolt-ons that failed.
So I do totally get where you're coming from. That experience soured us from the brand. Corporate support was deplorable. We sold the van to Carmax and it was 100% at that moment in time. We haven't bought that brand since and may never will again, I don't know. That brand has since really revitalized itself, but you know what they say about "fool me once, fool me twice..." As human beings, it's hard to move past a real screw job by a manufacturer, even though you know, rationally, that most experiences with that brand will be good.
