Besides the ability to maintain engine cleanliness and cold pumpability,do true synthetics (grp IV,V) oils take a beating better/protect engine internals better in a car that`s driven hard? What are the basic advantages in using synths over dinos if you drive your car like you stole it? Not that I do that though

It's hard to say. You know where I stand, I had lower wear as measured by teardowns with dino. This was only one engine family though. My use was short bursts, never really did more than a few seconds of WOT on the street at a time and I have a big oil cooler so heat was never an issue. Going from my experience I would have to say dino works just as well for drag racing. At 100lbs of torque per hole on a narrow small diameter journal crank, keeping parts separated is the biggest concern. I'm sure the results would be different in a road racing scenario.

Depends on the application and who you ask. As mentioned above, someone in a long road race would probably prefer a synthetic due to the greater heat resistance. However, if you look in the oil pan of a pulling tractor running a diesel with 100+ pounds of boost you'll often find a heavy paraffin-base engine oil. In this case, the paraffin-base oils offer an extremely strong film and don't see the sustained temperatures of the road-racer.

Don't most of the Funny car and Top fuelers use synt. oil now. Since it's harder to clean off the track than dino, isn't that why they they wear the diaper around their engines? Just asking.

synths will exhibit better properties, such as film strength, shear strength, less corrosive, better operating temps, better thermal conductivity, etc. the question becomes if there are VI's required what are the VI's made from?

The theories are great but in actual testing I've seen less wear with dino. Do syns always have better shear strength and film strength? My experience says no.

Again, for a road racer I'm sure synthetic is better. For drag racing I'm not convinced.
