Now that MaxLife meets dexos 1, what advantages do you think Synpower offers? I suspect better cold/high temperature protection.

Synpower/ML are both using almost the same detergent/AW additives based on the VOA's we've seen here....

That's one of the dumbest statements I've read on here for a while.

Both are very good oils. While I haven't used MaxLife in either of my current vehicles (see signature), I've used SynPower with good results (as supported by UOAs) and wouldn't hesitate to use it again. Even after 7800 miles in the Saturn, TBN was 1.8 and wear metals were below universal averages for that engine.

Think he's trying to throw us off so he can get more on sale.

I always love it when they give their opinion and then say "sleep well at night!"

Agree with Zerosoma - I sleep well at night and I use Maxlife in my Rav. Good stuff!

Both ML and Synpower 5w30 are dexos 1 compliant. My thinking is the differences are in the base oils and seal conditioners. ML has more seal conditioners, but Synpower has better base oils for better low/high temperatures.

The last few days we had low temps around 12F-15F. The only difference I noticed between ML 5w30 and M1 0w30 was it takes ML about 5-10 seconds to quiet down the engine, then it's as quiet as the M1. * I realize this means very little without data.

I'm not surprised being ML is a blend. I would expect Synpower to do better in this area.

Thanks, but I was asking about the ML FULL synthetic (you know, that IMPOSSIBLE to find stuff in the silver bottle

).

Oh ok, sorry. No it's not. It would most likely meet it, but it's a very thick 30 grade, which is why I didn't use it. HT/HS at least 3.5.

I picked up Synpower 5w30 today. The new label jug at WM. I'm going to use that next.

We had some cold mornings this week for the first time in awhile. One observation with this oil was it doesn't get to the top of the engine quite fast enough. I'm getting the 2.4L diesel sound for 10 seconds. That didn't happen with AFE 0w20/30. However, after that, the engine was extremely quiet. I'm thinking the Synpower will flow better, as it should being a full synthetic.

The 5w30 Synpower has a VI of 172. Pretty good and better than the ML 5w30. ML 5w30 does meet dexos 1, so there really isn't too much of a difference most likely.
