Yea this winter will be my last run on synthetic. At the start of next summer im giving auto rx a try. Eventhough the valve are spotless it makes me wonder about the ring packs. If all is good after the treatment maintence doses and good'ol dino will be here to stay.

dino (penzoil or gtx, havoline) change at 3k miles... case closed, simple huh?? yep! take care of that tranny, it will go before your motor will. no worries.

btw is your other name SFCP?? lol

What about Valvoilne, Quaker STate, or Supertec? Is this how the sega of which dino oil is better continues? Because one person suggest 2 or 3 brands but leaves the other brands out of the discussion?

Choose a conventional based on price as long as it meets API SM and ILSAC GF4 energy conserving designation.
Look in the promotions forum. There are always rebates or temporary price reductions. Or just go to walmart and choose a 5 quart jug. We all have out "favorites" but this is mostly emotional response.
Tropartic at walmart is a good value and I use that for 5k mile intervals that fit my conditions and driving .
This is what usually happens. You find a really good deal on oil, you buy a lot of it. 2-3 years later you are almost out and it is time to keep an eye out for the good deal again.

There does seem to be a strong bias against synthetic oil and the whole Auto-Rx issue. I've read between the lines that synthetic causes sludge and there is no reason to ever use synthetic - especially a High Mileage synthetic. You will be better served using dino oil forever. The more I read of the reasons why the more questions it raises. I'm using Auto-Rx in 3 out of 4 of my vehicles and I have no doubt it works. I just question the synthetic oil causes sludge issues.

The jury is out for me on this issue - time will tell.

Be careful - synthetic oils do not cause sludge. With the higher quality dinos, there is not much difference between the two for normal everyday uses. Sludge is related to PCV and other engine design problems that would cause any Grp 2, 2+, or 3 oil to sludge; I am not sure how PAOs would work in those sludge prone engines. Dinos are recommended during the Auto-RX process because of the dino's characteristics and lower cost.
